I know that many of you wish to have an iPhone or already have one because everybody is so thrilled of this device that is actually a very inspired combination of mobile phone, computer, digital camera and portable media player. It's a dream come true for many users who did not even dare to have both mobile phone technology and also wireless internet access in a very small and nicely designed gadget. But if you tried to purchase an iPhone you surely noticed the fact that it can be bought only if you sign a two year contract with the mobile phone company AT&T. If you accept to sign this contract you can choose the type of contract that advantages you most and you will have the opportunity to buy the iPhone for a very good price, starting from $99.
Of course there are now other models of iPhone available that have more storage space and they will cost more, obviously, according to the capacity of the storage space and memory. Considering this essential condition for purchasing an iPhone, many people wondered why Apple chose AT&T for iPhone service. Actually it's not so hard to guess. First of all Apple is better known for the IT products it manufactures.
The fact that it started producing mobile phones as well has more to do with the fact that the iPhone is not only a mobile phone, but more of a mini computer. So the thing is that Apple did not have a network of stores that are specialized in selling mobile phones or iPhones. And normally people to mobile phone stores when they want to buy a phone, even an iPhone and they do not think about going to a computer store, even if it's an Apple store and everybody knows that Apple produced the iPhone.

So they looked for the biggest and best mobile phone company in the US and tried to negotiate with them the signing of a very advantageous contract of collaboration. Apple would benefit from the infrastructure offered by AT&T and would have big sales on this account. On the other hand, the fact that the iPhone purchasing is conditioned by the contract with AT&T is a big advantage for AT&T, too. They will have lots of contracts signed this way because there is a big demand still of iPhones, iPhones 3G and 3GS.
Plus, all the contracts are signed for two years, a very good period of time for a mobile phone contract because there can be many changes in two years and they have the certainty of these contracts. AT&T also covers the biggest area in the USA with its mobile phone service.

After I have done some research on the internet I found out that you can now purchase an iPhone without necessary signing a contract with AT&T, but the price you will have to pay is much bigger - about $400 or 500 more than the normal price for that iPhone model. Besides, it will be delivered locked and you will have to take care of that, too. So considering all these do you think it's a good idea to purchase it for this price only because you want a different mobile phone company?
I hope I helped you understand why Apple chose AT&T for iPhone service.
