Who Created The Ipod

posted in iPod, by adimoga

Certain things have become so usual, so regular and everyone uses them around us, that we can't even imagine what was it like before they were invented. I can't simply imagine the world without electricity or cars or computers. I know they have only recently come into public use and that people had to deal without them for a very long time, but they are part of our lives now, part of who we are. So every once in a while we take a moment and think about the inventor who had such a brilliant mind and invented these things and made our lives better and easier and certainly more pleasant. This is how I started wondering one day who created the iPod.

I know Apple produces this device, but Apple is just the name of some company, not an individual, a person. I also know that it was announced and advertised somewhere in 2000 and was released on the market in 2001, bring improved version almost every year. As usual, the information is not very hard to find once you know what to look for and the internet turned out to be my best friend once again. So here is what I found out.

By the year 2000 there were a lot of electronic devices on the market, but nothing significant in the portable media player department. All the devices existing then were rather too big and difficult to use or simply ugly or they did not have enough storage space for the songs and so on. So the Apple CEO Steve Jobs, the "brain" behind many of Apple's great successes , though about having one designed and produced by Apple.

So he ordered the hardware chief engineer, John Rubinstein, build a team of Apple professionals and finish the project within a year. The guy chose the best professionals and made up a great team that included the hardware engineers Tony Fadell and Michael Dhuey and also design engineer Jonathan Ive. So it was not a person who created the iPod, but rather a team of creative and imaginative people. They succeeded designing and building the best and the most nice-looking portable media player ever that brought huge profits to the company and that still sells great.

The name came afterwards, when the iPod was already finished. Steve Jobs again called a freelance copywriter whose name is Vinnie Chieco and asked him to give a name to this amazing device. Legend says he saw the iPod and he immediately thought of the movie 2001: Space Odyssey, where there were some kind of docks called pods and the device reminded him of those pods. And the "i" in front of it came as a natural mark for Apple. I guess these are the people who contributed to the birth of the iPod and helped it get into our homes and lives. I must admit they did an incredible job and I am looking forward to see what they will come up with next time they release something on the market.
