Where Are Apple Ipods Manufactured

posted in Apple, by adimoga

Everyone knows that iPods are made by Apple. Well, not literally. Since many people asked "Where areApple iPods manufactured ?". I did some research and I have found out some very interesting information about this topic. Apple is the official producer of the iPod, but in fact all the components are assembled by Foxconn, a Chinese company that has its headquarters in Taiwan and also has lots of other centers all over the world. Apple is only the one providing the design and the other most important parts of the iPods. It is thought to be a marketing solution and the perfect way to cut down the production expenses. Actually Apple is not the only American company to do this. There are many companies from Western countries which prefer having their products be manufactured in China because they only pay very little for the workers' wages compared to what they would pay if they were to manufacture the same products in another country.

The Chinese are so many and they are not exactly in the place to choose from different offers, as they have little agriculture and little industry, so they will take whatever they are offered.Another important feature of the Chinese manufacturing of the iPods is the fact that China is a communist country that is very secretive when it comes to its business, so Apple's secrets are very well kept there and areĀ  less likely to be revealed than it would have been in an American factory and this is very important.

The people working in China for the Foxconn live inside a special perimetre that was built for this purpose only. People who know about the existence of this industrial area call it "iPod city", as all the workers really live here. They have dormitories and doctors to look for them and all the things they need. The exact location of this "iPod city" is in the Chinese province Shenzen and it is called Hon Han Precision City by those who work there. that is because Hon Hai is the Chinese name of the company, as Foxconn is its English version.

At first sight things seem to be working really well there, but there were some accusations in the past and also recently regarding the working conditions there. Some English journalists disguised in workers and penetrated the security system, revealing the fact that the workers are mainly women who work for about 15 hours every day, being paid very little for their efforts, about $27 without the accomodation and food expenses. Apple said they will look into it and when things cooled a bit everything seemed perfect again. But last year, in 2009, there were some incidents with more suicides and some inside sources claimed the Chinese guardians beat the workers, so things got into public attention once again.

Now that you know where are Apple iPods manufactured, you also know that things are a lot different at first sight than in case you take a close look and investigate a bit further.
