When Was the First iPod Released?

posted in iPod, by adimoga

Everyone knows what an iPod is, everyone wants an iPod and almost everybody has one. But do you know when the first iPod was released? Well, the first one was unveiled on 23 October 2001 at an event organized by Apple. This little gadget was a Mac-compatible device and had a 5GB hard drive and that means you could have “1000 songs in your pocket”.

Vinnie Chieco was the man who proposed the name of the iPod. He was a freelancer copywriter who was called by the Apple Company to give an idea on how to introduce the new player they created to the public. When he saw the iPod he remembered the movie A pace Odyssey (2001) and said: “Open the pod bay door, Ha!”. He made a connection with the EVA Pods of the Discovery Onespaceship.

If we’re talking about the moment when the first iPod was released we must mention when the iTUnes Store was released. First, iPod Tunes is an online media store owned by Apple and it was released on 23 April, 2003. In 2005, Apple announced that they could sale videos through the store. The original iPod had only one game called Brick, but later on they added three more games: Parachute, Solitaire and Music Quiz.

Before iPod generation, MP3 players were used by the population and these little players weren’t so great. But since the iPod was released, all those small MP3 players companies started trying harder to catch some audience.

The first iPod had a high resolution screen and had a little wheel used to control the menu. As a result, this first iPod was easier to use than any other player. No one could guess that Apple will release the first iPod. There were all kinds of rumors, but no one knew this will happen. Almost noone believed in this player. The public and the rest of the people who were in the room didn’t know why that the world needed this iPod. Even the critics estimated the product at a price of 400$. Especially because it had no compatibility with Windows.

A month later, iPod was released in Europe in front of an enthusiast public. This is where all began, with a lot of other stuff sold as accessories. So everybody now saw that Apple had a great idea and a new version, with 10GB (first generation) was released in a short time.

So that an iPod could be recognized, Apple began to “write” on the back of the product the name and the logo of the company. After all this, the success began with more iPods and more GB on them. There are also lots of types of iPods, (mini, shuffle, touch) that continue to impress everybody so we can say that iPod is the new generation.
