What to do if the ipod freezes

posted in iPod, by adimoga

I read somewhere a very funny proverb or saying that applies here very well: "All electronic devices do what you tell them to do , not what you want them to do." Yes , I agree, most of the times when some electronic device does not work properly , it's probably the user's fault. Ok, not in all cases, but in many. And it's all the more true when you use some devices that need a software to work because software applications can be so much easier to damage or confuse. Let's take your iPod for example.

If you use it non stop and you give it lots of simultaneous commands without waiting for one to complete, the software does not know how to respond to this and which command to perform first, so it simply freezes. You can't give it any more commands because it won't listen to you. Even if you try to turn it off, you can't do it and whatever button you press it won't start moving or doing anything. So what to do if the iPod freezes? First check if it's a physical problem. Sometimes your iPod will freeze simply because it is paused or the Hold button is stuck in the locked position. If you want to know if this is the case with your ipod, check the screen and you will be able to see a lock symbol there. Try to force then the Hold button into its unlocked position and it will work perfectly in no time. If you don't see this symbol, it's probably something else.

If your iPod is the a model with a click wheel, you can reset it by simply toggling the wheel up and down and then trying to turn the device off.

Sometimes, especially when you go to the shuffle songs too much your iPod gets a big messed up by the long playlists you make and it freezes. in this case leave it alone for a few hours and it will work just fine. But do not forget to recharge it after that.

Normally the answer to the question:"What to do if my iPod freezes?" is "Reset it." The commands for resetting are quite different, depending on the iPod model. Sometimes you have to press the Menu and Hold button at the same time for several seconds until it turns off, then restart it. Or push the button that is on top of the iPod touch until it turn off. Here is a list with all these combinations for the different models of iPod that have appeared so far.

If you have done both things , I mean check the Hold button and reset the iPod and instead of fixing the problem you just ended up losing all your data and music stored there, you will need a recovery software that you can download here. If you did all the steps I mentioned above and your iPod does not work any more, just go to a professional and have him check your device and fix it. And if you are lucky enough to be still under warranty you will get  new device instead. Hopefully.
