Unlocking iPhone

posted in iPhone, by adimoga

The iPhone is a line of internet and multimedia enabled smartphones that was first announced in January 2007 by Apple Inc.The  iPhone can be used with three different purposes:first of all, the  iPhone is a mobile phone that you can use to send text messages and make  audio and video calls.

Second, the iPhone can be used for multimedia  management purposes, like storing your favorite music files which you can  also play,as well as videos and pictures as the device has quite a  memory,as it can even reach 64 GB of internal memory. The third way to  use an iPhone is that of an internet and browser-based machine that you  can use for surfing the internet, managing e-mails,socializing,and  others, with the help of the implemented Wi-Fi technology that the good  people at Apple thought of.

The iPhone can execute a huge number of  applications, commonly known as iPhone Apps,Apple iPhone Apps or just  Apps. These Apps can only be obtained by visiting the official Apple  online store where Apple have stored over 20.000 applications(only Apple  approved applications work on their device). These apps come in several  domains such as gaming,social-networking,GPS systems and maps, and many  others,as some famous brands or names are present as well, such as  YouTube or Twitter.

The iPhone comes in four different generations,as  every model brought something new and innovative for the serie, like the  ability to perform 3G video calls in the case of the second  installment, named iPhone 3G for that matter. The other two models are the  iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.The iPhone is a mobile phone that follows the  known practice of the GSM subsidized phones, which require the user to  first register it as a mobile phone before being able to use its other  features, but apposing the GSM phones, the iPhone cannot be unlocked by  code or serial number.

The first model of the iPhone came out in January and looked like  something you cannot hack.A few months later,in July(July 3 to be more  precise),a man named Jon Lech Johnson discovered a way to bypass this  requirement by using some software programs and editing some iTunes  binary data.He posted the way he did it on his blog so everybody could unlock their iPhones. The second installment of the iPhone serie, the iPhone 3G  we spoke of earlier, turned out to be a tough nut to crack,as not only  did it require registration as a mobile phone, but also presented  in-store activation. This made its unlocking pretty much impossible. The  iPhone also had a SIM Lock that registered the device to one particular  carrier that the user would registered when buying the phone.

The hackers  however succeeded in registering the phone from another network,as  iPhones were originally registered to AT&T but only a quarter of the  sold phones were actually registered to this company.Apple believes that  the iPhones were shipped across the sea and were unlocked there.AT&T  even started to sell iPhones without contracts but at double price as such phones made both them and Apple lose the differed  income.

Other countries however have different policies as United  Kingdom can buy 3G iPhones from iTunes for example, and others even sell  unlocked phones as they do not have contact or relations with  AT&T.After this, both iPhone 3G and iPhone 4 were unlocked shortly  after their release date. After taking all these in consideration, the  iPhone still remains the best-sold and the most successful mobile phone  currently available.
