You can use your iPhone as a multimedia manager, meaning you can store, organize and play your favorite songs and videos and view your favorite pictures. The third function of the iPhone is that of an internet and browser-based device which allows you to easly surf the web with the help of the implemented Wi-Fi internet connection. The iPhone also shows a great number of applications(most commonly known as Apps)that increase the phone's utility.

The only way to obtained these applications is by going on Apple's online store.Only aproved third-party apps are able to execute on the iPhone, but that is not a problem because the Apple webstore currently has over 20.000 apps verified and stored ready for use. These are part of various domains such as gaming,social-networking,map tracking, and many others.
There are currently four iPhone models available, starting with the first iPhone presented in 2007,all the way to 2010's iPhone 4.The list also includes iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS(the second and third installment to the serie). Each model of the well known device has various features that represent an improvement from the last model, like the ability to perform 3G video calls for the iPhone 3G(for that reason it is called 3G),but also have a pack of characteristics that remained untouched during all four transformations. These include the screen size and the button positioning.
The number of physical buttons can also be added to the list as only one minor adjustment was made by implementing volume keys on the side.Other than that, the iPhone always had only two buttons:the Home key located under the display, and the sleep/awake button situated on top of the device.
If someone buys an iPhone,he must first register it as a mobile phone with a valid carrier in order to gain access to the multimedia and internet features. This is a practice for which the subsidized GSM phones are well known for. However, opposing the GSMs,the iPhone cannot be unlocked by introducing a code. This did not stop American citizen Jon Lech Johnson from discovering a way to bypass this requirement. He used certain software programs and edited some iTunes binary data.He posted the necessary material on his personal blog so anyone can unlock their iPhone. With the release of the iPhone 3G however,iPhone unlocking seemed more complicated and tougher because of the new in-store activation that Apple has implemented.

This basically means that you have to register your phone and carrier when buying the phone. As it was not hard enough already, hackers needed to face the SIM lock that iPhones came with as well, which restricted access to a single carrier. In the end, they found a way to register the phones from different networks even tough Apple had an agreement with AT&T for U.S. registrations, meaning AT&T gets to register all iPhones. However, only a quarter of the total number of sold devices were actually registered to this network,as Apple speculates that the phones were shipped over the sea and unlocked there.Afraid they would lose the differed income,AT&T started selling iPhones without contracts at a double price.
