Top iPhone 3G Applications

posted in software news, by Codrut Nistor

Like it or not, the iPhone 3G is a top smartphone. Well, maybe a bit more than a smartphone for some, and less than a smartphone for others, but I'll keep considering it only a smartphone, if that's OK with you. Since we're talking about a top smartphone, you also need some top applications for it, and while the App Store is crawling with various programs, no man has enough time to try them all, so today I will try to help you...

First of all, if you want to spend a few minutes to take a look at the Top 10 iPhone Programs article, published here back in July, that could help. I know - it may help you to know better which applications you should avoid, but anyway... some people enjoy Zuma or Luxor, while I hate them both, so you may find something interesting in that article.

Now, let's leave that one behind and grab exactly 10 top iPhone 3G applications you should use, and not avoid! Ready or not, here we go...

10. If you're missing the old phone your gramma still has lying around, then Rotary Dialer, priced at only $0.99, will surely help. Basically, this is all about turning your 21st century iPhone into a retro desktop rotary phone. Once installed, this app replaces the iPhone's numeric keypad with a virtual rotary-style dialer with the look & feel of its historic counterpart(including sounds!).

9. Most people I know use eBay, and at least half of them also use various other online shops. With Save Benjis, you can compare prices for over 15 million products from more than 1000 different stores. Even better, this iPhone 3G app is FREE!

8. For all those video freaks out there, Truveo Video Search is another free app that gives you no excuse for not having it installed on your iPhone 3G!

7. For only $2.99, Vicinity allows you to instantly get one-tap information about local services and amenities, including restaurants, bars, transportation, entertainment and fast food joints.

6. Following the same approach, Where? does about the same thing as Vicinity, only that it doesn't cost a penny. Anyway, I never had the occasion to try them out side by side, so I can't exactly tell you which one is better, especially since my area has no decent GPS coverage...

5. This is not one I would use, since I like to walk around instead of using aids, but Remote is a great tool for the lazy ones. This free app turns your iPhone or iPod touch into a remote control for your Mac or Apple TV.

4. WeatherBug needs no introduction, so if you don't want to get caught by the rain without an umbrella...get this one - it's free!

3. Facebook is my number 3 top iPhone 3G application. Just give it a try - if you're not one of those who hate social networking, you gotta love this one!

2. I can't live without music, and paying $9.99 for being able to create my own music on the iPhone doesn't seem too much at all. Band is the app able to help you with that, and I think it's nothing less but great!

1. Priced at $9.99, Super Monkey Ball is the best iPhone 3G app I can think of at this time. Obviously, such a top depends a lot on the one choosing the programs and his own needs, but I am sure that, sooner or later, every iPhone 3G owner will play some game on it, so why not a great game?

That's all for today's top iPhone 3G applications, but we'll get back to this topic, sooner or later. After all, there are so many iPhone apps waiting to be discovered...
