StarPlayr Is Dead!

posted in software news, by Codrut Nistor

Apart from helping developers get rich, it seems the App Store can also kill various projects. No, I am not talking about those rejected, because today I found out about a whole new category - the one including projects hanging around, waiting to be approved for much too long. The first one that has been discontinued because of this is NiceMac's StarPlayr.

Just as a side note - if you have any idea about other program who ended up being discontinued because Apple didn't say anything for much too long regarding its admission into the App Store, please go ahead and drop a comment below. That would surely make this article better! Now, let's see what happened with StarPlayr, shall we?

To make this sad story shorter, here's the official message issued by NiceMac yesterday:

"To all of our fans and customers:

NiceMac has decided it is in our best interests to discontinue the StarPlayr project. NiceMac will be issuing refunds for purchasers of StarPlayr for Windows Mobile on a first come first serve basis until corporate funds have been exhausted.

To request a refund simply copy and paste your StarPlayr for Windows Mobile PayPal receipt via the Contact us Email form.

We would all like to thank you for your support, kind words, understanding and patience throughout. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,
The NiceMac Team

p.s.

This has been the greatest privilege and honor working with this fantastic NiceMac team. Never in my wildest dreams we would have accomplished so much together. In my book, you are all heroes. Good luck in your future endeavors and enjoy the success in everything you do. I hold your programming abilities and entrepreniual spirit to the highest regard. Thank you. Sincerely, goodtime"

Could it be that Apple has something against apps adding the functionality they've been forgetting about, like satellite radio? After all, why keep such a program like StarPlayr on hold since the end of January? I know this process could take up to 2-3 months, and maybe NiceMac didn't do exactly the right thing, but now everything is over - StarPlayr is dead. Rest In Peace! :(
