First introduced at the WWDC 2008 held in San Francisco at the Moscone Center on June 9,2008,the iPhone 3G resembled pretty much whit the original version of the iPhone,as it presents the same 2MP camera that doesn't support video recording,and having its performance limited by the same 128 MB eDRAM unit.However,the two model of the device are not identical,as the 3G model has several improvements over the original model,such as Assisted GPS, 3G data and quad-band UMTS/HSDPA.
The iPhone 3GS uses the iOS operating system developed by Apple,which also implemented on the original Apple,as well as all other iPhone models that were released after the iPhone 3G.The iOS operating system can also be found on the iPod Touch digital media player and the iPad tablet computer.Both these devices were produced by Apple as well.
As the original iPhone,the 3G version restricts users from executing any application on the device that was not approved by Apple and bought via their online application store(commonly known as the AppStore). Executing such applications or software on the iPhone may cause serious software errors or malfunctions that will not be covered by the iPhone's warranty.
The iPhone 3G,as well as all other iPhone models,is controlled by a multi-touch sensitive display screen that responds to finger interaction.One can use one finger to control the device,as well as several fingers,such in zooming in or out of a page,like a documents or web page.
One July 11,2008,Apple released the iPhone in twenty-two countries,including the original six.The phone was available in to versions,each having different storage memory.The first model had a total storage capacity of 8 GB and the second one 16 GB.Buying the 16 GB model of the iPhone 3G gave users the opportunity of choosing which color their device will have.The iPhone 3G was available only in black or white.
When the iPhone 3GS was released,the iPhone 3G's price was cut in half and became the budget model of iPhone. As it's price dropped down to $99,the iPhone 3G was now available on black only,with 8 GB of internal storage.On June 7 2010,the iPhone 3G was discontinued and replaced with an 8 GB version of the iPhone 3GS sold at the same price of $99.The decision of discontinuing the 3G line of iPhones was made due to the appearance of the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 which took ove most of the public's interest.
