Safari Security Issues

posted in software news, by Codrut Nistor

Despite what some people might say, Safari is a Web browser worthy of your attention, even the Windows version. After all, I already got tired of seeing such programs trashed by various "experts" for lack of phishing protection, for example, when best phishing protection is a SMART & WELL INFORMED USER! Anyway, sometimes, nothing can keep you away from security flaws of the program itself, as it happens with one of the latest Safari security issues we're going to talk about right away...

This issue I mentioned is being pushed forward to the masses by TUAW's Michael Rose, who wrote that "a hole in Safari's handling of RSS feeds could allow an attacker (via a malicious web page) to capture a user's personal information, cookies or even passwords."

Obviously, he wasn't the one to discover this Safari security issue, but Brian Mastenbrook, a guy who seems to have a problem with Safari. No, no, no, don't get me wrong - he comes in peace, only that this is not the first vulnerability discovered by him in Apple software...

For now, it seems no in-depth information about this security issue emerged, but Brian seems to have gotten himself an official acknowledgment from Apple that the issue exists and, thanks to his security hole-finding skills, we will see an update fixing that pretty soon, or at least that's what we all hope!
