If you have deleted by mistake some files and you need you need to get them back here are some software applications that can help you. If the files you have deleted are in the Trash Bin you can, also, get them back (because the information and the date is recoverable even if the memory space is now free to use).

One of the applications that can help you, is Stellar Phoenix Macintosh Data Recovery; is a free trial application which can help you recover deleted photos and other files on Mac OS X. the application has an interactive interface that shows you all the different files it can recover: music files, video files, picture files or deleted files from your Trash Bin. FileSalvage V7.0 is a powerful Macintosh software for searching and recovering deleted information from volume or drive. The application is able to restore files that have become unreadable, have been deleted by accident and have been stored on a drive even if that drive was formatted.

The application is built for: 10.4 Tiger, 10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system.

FileSalvage is file system independent, so the application is able to recover information from: USB key, Mac OS hard drive, Linux disk, PC disk, FLASH card, scratched CD, FAT32 disk, iPods and Digital cameras. Even it can recover files from many types of data storage it can’t recover deleted files if their have been overwritten by another data. The application doesn’t allow you to store the information in the same volume it recover it from, you need to store it to a secondary drive or to an external device.

It is able to recover files from faulty hardware (it is able to read information and to skip of areas when the information is fully unreadable) and from corrupt media (the ability to recover partial files, whole files or the entire data).

It is able to recover about 100 file types, stand alone and embedded. You can download a free trial of this application if you want to try it before you buy it.

FileSalvage V7.0 is very to use and the recovery process in all about the gathering the available files and then recover and save them to another location (you can use a secondary device, for example FireWire hard drive, or you can save them in the same hard drive but another partition).

The Main Window of the application is the starting point for the file search. The window has 3 options:

Recover Deleted Files –for deleted files recovery

Salvage All Files –if you want to recover files from a hard drive that it is not able to be mounted

Explore a Drive – you can search the entire volume or, only, the free space for the files you want to save to another location.

The Recover Deleted Files will open a task window which gives you the possibility to choose the volume/device for the file search, the file type: office file (example: DOC, PPT or XLS), video file (example: ASF, MOV or MPG), picture file (example: TIFF, GIF, or JPG), audio file (example: WAV, AIFF or MP3) or all known file types.

After you selected the volume and the file type you must select a location for the files recovered – don’t forget that this location must be a different location from the one with the deleted file search.

These are some great programs to help you recover your files and no matter the type of the files, you will always find an application that will help you, just remember that all this software is available in a free demo – but if you find something to want to recover you must buy the software.
