The best looking rumor I've heard is that the next iPhone will have doubled Internet speed, thanks to a new 3G chipset, and since AT&T has been trialing faster 3G since late 2008, the carrier-related issues should also become a part of the past. Speaking about numbers, the next iPhone should be capable of a 7.2Mbps 3G speed.
