Known as “iMac iSight”, the new iMac G5 comes as a predecessor of the iMac G5 models, being the third revision for the iMac G5 Series. This iMac model comes with many performance improvements, a sleeker design, Apple’s first-ever multi-button mouse, a built-in video camera and new “Front Row” software. It also comes with a delightful display, with vivid, sharp and accurate colors. The Bluetooth and Airport Extreme features are standard for this new iMac G5 model. Like the original Macintosh, the iMac G5 comes like a monolithic device which includes a display and a computer. Coming with a gently curved back and a thinner profile and covered in a pleasant white color, the new iMac G5 looks extremely elegant and luxurious.
Being useful, the Front Row software and the built-in video camera (with wireless remote control) have proven to be a great add-on from Apple, designed for teenagers or college students, generations which quickly adopt new interesting technologies and who want to use the iMac as a media center. But why it is called “iSight”? Apple’s new “iSight” hardware is designed for speeding up the video-chat adoption by including a video-camera on each unit. The “iSight” camera used on the new iMac G5 comes with many improvements from the older models and it also is more powerful. It is a high-speed USB 2.0 device which includes FireWire technology. Even if it is non-adjustable, fixed in place, it is correctly centered at the right position so you will never need to adjust the iMac for a good view. It is also equipped with a microphone which even if is visible as a little hole, it works very well.

In a poorly lit environment, the iMac’s buit-in camera offers a much better quality of images than the older versions. The Front Row software is the most expected “media center” software by most users. Being operated by a keyboard or an included infrared remote control, it provides a simple and slick front end for watching movies, DVDs, iTune Music and iPhoto albums. In fact, the Front Tow is a front-end menu system for DVD player, iTunes and iPhoto. When you select photos, music, videos or a DVD, it launches the most appropriate iLife application.
When it comes to performance, we need to say that the iMac G5 comes with 512 MB of RAM memory (PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM) enough for common tasks like word processing, e-mail, photo editing, managing digital music and running spreadsheets. If you want more memory you can extend it up to 2 GB, but it will cost you some money (the 2 GB card has a price of $1200). For video and gaming, the iMac G5 comes with an ATI Radeon X600 Pro graphics card (17 inch model) with a total memory of 128 MB. This graphics card offers a maximum resolution of 1680 x 1050 pixels.

The iMac G5 comes in standard with a 2 GHz Intel Pentium processor which provides enough power to manage all your tasks. There is also an included a DVD+R / CD-RW Super drive which is rated to read DVDs at a speed of 8x and CDs at a speed of 24x. Anyway, even if it is not very powerful, you need to remember that this desktop PC is designed for demanding users, who are looking for a luxurious and beautiful device. So, if you are interested about it, you probably want to know that comes with a price of $2500.
