iPod Touch 3rd Generation

posted in Apple, by BindApple

The iPod Touch is a portable media player, personal digital assistant (or PDA), and wi-fi mobile platform designed and marketed by the Apple company. Its history goes back in 2007 when, on September 13 was the first generation officially released on the market. Back then, people were already used to buying and having millions of iPods, so the releasing of a new gadget from the iPod family was received enthusiastically by the fans.

The iPod Touch, or the iTouch colloquially known is a full touchscreen device that uses the same technology, in big lines, with other similar products from the Apple family such as the iPhone or the recently released iPad. This is why many critics were skeptical towards the new gadget, as they didn't really see the need for Apple to create a product that is almost identical to another one, which also functions as a phone. Still, critics were disappointed to hear that the prouct was extremely well received by the consumers, and, as from September 2009, the Apple officials announced they have sold over 20 million copies of the iTouch itself, in the whole world.

With this encouraging figures, no wonder that Steve Jobs decided to throw on the market other two versions, different and innovative from the rest. The 3rd generation of iPod Touch was released on September 9, 2009 and it is the most recent version of the product. It is similar to the previous models, but of course, it has some new features too. It is available with 34 or 64 GB storage capacity, features voice control, and it also has a light sensor, bundled earphones with a remote and a microphone. It also includes faster hardware, the same microprocessors, RAM and graphic engine as the previous mentioned iPhone, still, in terms of battery, it has a slightly lower life than the first and second version. So, as a comparison to the second generation of iTouch, the 3rd one can last only up to 30 hours for audio and 6 hours for the video, instead of 36 hours of audio for the previous generation.

In addition, it still lacks a few features from the second generation model, the most known being the Apple +Nike feature. Also, starting with the second generation, the Touch can be charged from the 5V pin of the dock connector, while most previous iPod models and the original iPod Touch could also be charged from the 12V pin for firewire power, so probably some of your cars will not supply you anymore with a source of power to charge your iTouch model. However, manufacturers fixed this problem also, by introducing connective adapters on the market that will help you still use the power source from your car or other 12V power sources.
