Another computer type from the Apple multinational Company is the iMac which is also running under Mac OS X operating system. These device’s interesting fact is that you have to purchase the keyboard and the mouse separately in order to use this “all in one desktop” machine.
In case that you have installed to your device a lot of programs, applications, movies or any other files that occupies big amount of spaces you have the possibility to upgrade your iMac computer’s hard drive. You can do this process on your own at home and in this way you can also save money but you can return your device to Apple manufacturers who will resolve the problem. Don’t forget that this process avoids the Apple warranty. In this article you will find the steps that you have to follow in order to upgrade an iMac computer’s hard drive. My first advice for you is to prepare a T8 Torx , T6 Torx, Philips screwdrivers, 4 suction cups and an anti-static mat. It is very important to turn off your machine and remove the power cable from the electrical outlet because you will work with internal components and this process can be dangerous if you let the power adapter in the power source.

Then you have to place your computer face-down on a flat and clean surface on the anti-static mat. For the step number two you will need the Philips screwdriver because you have to remove the screws that are located on your device’s middle side. After this you can remove the panel and the RAM cards, too. For the third step you will need a suction cup that you have to stick on the display cover. Then you have to remove the screws which are located on the device’s aluminum case. For this process use the T8 Torx screwdriver. After you have removed all the screws from the LCD panel you can disconnect the case. The step number four is to take out the black connector which is situated near the fan and disconnect the blue card, too. In order to remove the iMac computer’s hard drive you have to unscrew the screws with the T8 screwdriver and don’t forget to disconnect the SATA cable, too.<

Then you can easily take out the hard drive from the bay. It is very important to note the screws proper location because finally you have to replace them correctly. After you have replaced the hard drive you can follow the above presented instructions but in a reversed mode. You have to slide the new hard drive correctly into the computer’s panel. Otherwise you can damage the system. In case that you are not capable to replace the hard drive, it is advisable to return the device to Apple Service Provider.
