iMac Review

posted in Apple, iMac, reviews, by BindApple

The latest iMac models have very powerful processor Core i5 and Core i7, they are very powerful machines and they were the first iMacs to use quad-core processors. On Apple Store you will see that there are 4 standard iMac configurations, they come with different types of processor and storage capacity.

The top-of-the line iMac is the 27-inch Core i5 iMac with optional Core i7, this is the best and the fastest iMac model ever. The price for this machine is $1.999 with Core i5 processor and $2.199 with Core i7 processor. This iMac review is for those of you who want to find out more information about it and the way 27 – inch Core i5 iMac works.

The first thing you should know is that iMac uses a technology from Intel called Turbo Boost. What is special about this technology is the fact that the cores work independently but also together when you need more power. Let’s say, for example, that you run an application that uses only one core and the rest of the cores are in idle mood. The computer will shut off the idle cores and the active core will speed up for more power. This technology allows the processor the run very fast under heavy workloads.

One down side for this iMac model is the fact that Apple Remote is not included and the reflections and the glare from the screen may frustrate some customers, but this aspect could be resolved with an anti-glare film (they actually work great for all Apple MacBook and iMac models). The default brightens of this computer is a bit much and if you don’t like it this way you can always turn it down.

This computer looks great, the aluminum case is nice and the display is amazing. You can forget the incredible and impressive speed this computer has and the image quality is great at any angle. Other cool features of the new iMac are the following:  new SD slot and the improved speaker system.

The storage capacity for this model is huge – 1TB hard drive. This is enough for everything you need to save and when we thing that average computers come with a hard drive of 320 GB, the 1TB looks enormous. The ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics processor does it job very well because the games and the HD movies look great in rich and vivid colors.

The new iMac is faster at performing basic tacks, importing photos and a lot more because the quad-core processor provides up to 2x faster performances than the previous models. The keyboard and the Magic Mouse are the same, nothing has changed here.

All the iMac reviews we have read say the same thing about this great computer that is the fastest and the best performing computer Apple has ever made and if you can afford it, you should purchase it.

tbh honest I was also experiencing a glare from the screen and I do think it could have easily of been fixed. Other than that it was a very good computer and i'm glad I bought it.

I have bought the i5 version of the 27" IMac and to be honest it's a fantastic piece of kit. I've always used Microsoft Windows and had pretty good hardware for it...but the Mac OS and hardware are precision engineering at it's best. The quality of the screen, the back of the screen, keyboard and mouse are many levels above what is available from any other manufacturer out their. I'm not suffering from any reflections on the screen, but I have the screen in a corner with the window behind so it's all about positioning. When it comes to performance it's super quick....as a comparison I loaded a SD chip with HD footage and large picture on a Sony Vaio running windows 7 and the Mac....and the Mac left windows in it's trail. Their was around 4GB of footage in AVCHD format so it was compressed...the Mac played it instantly...Windows 7 needed updates and then eventually stuttered to play the video....and we're talking about the same hardware spec. If you have the money ditch windows and buy this mac. I never thought I'd say this considering I make my living as a consultant on Microsoft technologies and have been for over 15 years....the step over to Mac is a breath of fresh air.
