iMac G4 Specs

posted in hardware, by Codrut Nistor

Some computers will be always remembered, and while I don't think most of us will still use what they have on the desk now in 2015, Apple computers from the past still refuse to pull back and go into eternal sleep. The iMac G4 is a great example, because those oldies' design can easily face most computers produced these days, and the later models can also handle most modern applications without too many problems. These being said, I think it's a pretty good idea to talk about the iMac G4 specs, don't you agree?
iMac G4 Specs

First, a short history lesson. The iMac G4 isn't a decade old yet, but I am sure it will reach that age and still fulfill a lot of people's basic computing needs. Why? Just take a look at the image above, and you'll surely agree with me that the design won't get old anytime soon! Of course, a design it's enough to keep a computer in use, so let's move on and see why is the iMac G4 still a capable machine...

The iMac G4 arrived in early 2002, replacing the iMac G3, and was discontinued in mid 2004. Sold as "The New iMac," it became simply "iMac G4" as soon as the iMac G5 took its place.

First, the iMac G4 specs included a 15-inch LCD, and a PPC 74xx-series CPU, as well as a tray-loading optical drive, which was replaced by the slot-loading drive in the future iMac generations, starting with the G5.

Later, the iMac G4 specs became even more interesting, with the introduction of 17-inch and 20-inch widescreen LCDs, but this also came with a problem - the price was pretty high for that period, since LCD technology wasn't ready to go mainstream yet...

Talking about processor speed, the slowest iMac G4 had a 700MHz one, and the top-of-the-line iMac G4 went as high as the 1.25GHz G4 processor.

Since I mentioned the top-of-the-line iMac G4, let's take a look at its other specs: 256 MB of RAM (333 MHz PC2700 DDR SDRAM), 80 GB Ultra ATA/100 hard drive spinning at 7200 RPM, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra graphics with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM (AGP 4X support), as well as optional cards support for AirPort Extreme (802.11g) and Bluetooth.

At last, let's leave the iMac G4 specs and point out a few movies where you can spot the iMac G4, shall we? In "The Pacifier," Seth Plummer has an iMac G4 in his room; "Meet the Fockers" also has iMac G4s, with Jack Byrnes having an entire learning room with several of them; in seasons 2 and 3 of "Alias," Jennifer Garner's character has the iMac G4 in her home office. Obviously, these are only a few examples, but before taking a look at the iMac G4 specs, you should take a look at its design, that's all I wanted to say...
