iHome iPod Speakers

posted in gadgets, by Codrut Nistor

One of these days, a friend of mine was asking me about a set of iPod speakers. Back then, I had no idea what to recommend, especially since I am not crazy about iPods, and when it comes to portable music players, I always enjoy headphones. After all, that's the idea - you want music on the street or in the bus/train/whatever, you use the phones, and when you're at home, you pump up the volume of your home entertainment system...or get some speakers with built-in iPod dock, if your neighbours are that sensitive!

iHome iPod iH69

Earlier today, iHome revealed two iPod speaker systems, the iH69 and the iH70. Both have the iPod dock incorporated into the left satellite's base, so the clutter of a standalone dock is reduced, but I hope this doesn't increase the background noise. Probably not, but I have something against sound systems with volume control or anything else included into the satellites...

I don't know about the background noise, but I know that I'd love to have such speakers able to sync my player's content with any Mac or PC connected to them through USB, and that's probably the most interesting feature of these sets.

Both speakers sets support all dockable iPods, as well as the iPod touch, but it seems they'll come for pretty steep prices. While the black iH69 unit is expected to ship soon for $100, the silver iH70 comes with a remote control, more powerful speakers, SRS WOW field-enhancing technology, and no less than $130. Ouch!

Good stuff.

I know that a site has a wide variety of such products

um.. actually i never use these, the point is choose a right headphone, the headphones are best appreciated alone. but these speakers are ideal for social settings where you want to share your tunes with a few others or when you're milling around your hotel room getting ready for a night out on the town.

You're right...and they are also good when you need to pump up the volume louder than the idiot next to you, if you're in a train or bus, but that depends a lot on the area you're living in. If you never had to ride a train for a few hours next to a moron listening to crappy music at high volume, than I envy you! :)
