How To Play Wii On iMac

posted in Apple, iMac, by BindApple

For those of you who don't have enough money to buy a super HD TV with a wide screen for the ultimate wii experience, there is always the cheaper version and you won't have to spend any more money on new things if you already have an iMac. iMacs are easier and multifunctional devices and, with the right accessories, you can always transform your multimedia platform into something new and better. Too bad it doesn't do fries too. Yet. So, getting back on how you can kids play wii games on your imacs, there is a cheaper way to do so: the USB eyeTV Hibrid accepts composite cable and allows for full screen viewing. In addition, the included software lets you record and/or encode video directly to Quicktime or iPod format. The quality isn’t great (as expected from any analog signal source), but playback is responsive with virtually no latency.

Also, the eyeTV comes in many models, but the cheapest and best to use on iMacs is the Hybrid; it is more suitable as it doesn't have hardware compression and therefore doesn't delay the signal transmission as much as the EyeTV 250.

So, basically, what you need in order to experience the wii games on your desktop computers are the following:

- An iMac, or macbook with Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
- Elgato EyeTV Hybrid - you can find it at lower prices online, as low as US $120 (Original Price from Elgato Store: US$149.99)
and of course, a Wii Console and controller(s) (Also, you can find those online for prices at about 500 US dollars or less, but with tons of applications and games bonuses).

highly recommend you to get the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid to connect your Wii to your Mac. It is just a little design that goes directly to your USB. You don't have to open your computer at all! And you will also be able to use your Mac as a television and get free channels with this tiny device.

So, how to set them up then?

Well, if you get the device mentioned above, actually the problem is already solved. You just have to plug in the device to your USB, then in the box you will find a cable for the video and audio plug-ins. Plug the cable to the device and then connect your wii console the same way you would connect a TV. As simple as that!

Still, the results won't be very satisfying for those picky consumers because the quality is rather poor, and you won't even have the sensation of live entertainment as if you would have used the HD TV in the first place. All in all, it's a cheaper method to still enjoy playing wii without spending so much money, so take the best out of it!
