Ejecting Unresponsive Disc From iMac

posted in news, by BindApple

The Apple iMac is the first all-in-one desktop and it works very well most of the tine, but f your iMac has decided to act goofy and it doesn’t want to let do to the CD or DVD you put in it, you should follow the next steps before pay for your computer repair.

Ejecting unresponsive disk from iMac is not very hard after you learn the basics. Everyone confronted this type of problem, because the causes of an unresponsive disk are many. For example: maybe the CD or DVD wasn’t as clean as it should have been, maybe the disc is hard to read, or maybe you had to cancel in the middle of a burning process. The first step is to open iTunes, maybe this sounds silly, but it will take only a few minutes to try it and if it doesn’t work you can try something else. OK, so you should open iTunes and click on the eject button. You will find this button in the right corner of the iTunes window and if you eject the disc this way, the job is done.

If iTunes doesn’t work, you can try with the next application – Disk Utility. This is a handy tool and you will find it in the Utilities folder after you open the Applications folder. When you open the application, you will see a list of your disks (this list contains your hard drive and also the stuck CD) and you should click on the Eject button on your stuck disc. Or you can select the disc and go on File and then choose Eject from the menu.

If with the application above doesn’t work, you should restart your computer and hold down the mouse button. This action tells your computer to eject the CD from the drive. Press the mouse button several times and it your computer ejects the disc and can stop. If your iMac doesn’t want to restart you can force it to that by holding down the power button and if this doesn’t work, you can always disconnect the power source of your computer and then connect it again.

Another way for ejecting unresponsive disk from iMac is to force the eject of the disk by pushing a paper clip or something else into the emergency eject hole of your computer’s drive. Before you do that, you should put your iMac to sleep and then push until de disk ejects. Not all the drives have an emergency eject hole, so you should look for it before you put your computer to sleep.

If all these methods fail, you can try the FireWire mode or the firmware. For this method to work you must start your computer in the firmware mode and not in the Mac OS X interface. First you have to restart the computer and then press and hold the following keys: Command-Option-O-F. When you see a white welcome screen you can release them. You should type the next command: eject CD and then press the return button. After a few seconds the drive should eject your disk and if this thing happens you have to type the next command: mac-boot and press return. Your computer will restart without the unresponsive disk.
