Customize Your iPhone With iFuntastic

posted in software news, by Codrut Nistor

OK, so you just got an iPhone...or you haven't, but that's not really important. Once you'll get it, most chances are you'll want to turn it from "another iPhone" into "your iPhone," and that's not something out of ordinary, since a lot of people are trying to customize their iPhones in a way or another. Obviously, you will also want to customize your iPhone for free, or as cheap as possible, so - if you ask me - a $20-$30 case won't be enough, since software customization is always more flexible, and iFuntastic is exactly the tool to do that!

Coming from bitSplitâ„¢ Enterprises, iFuntastic is a software for iPhone, iPod Touch and Macintosh selling for $19.95, and allowing you to add the following personal content:

- Custom carrier logo
- Background image
- Movie playing underneath ("through window")
- Changed display order (gaps)
- Hidden (blank) Calendar icon
- Changed Calendar date color
- Hidden application names
- Transformed icons (reflection)
- Custom notification badge

Unfortunately, to use this powerful customization tool built around a file manager for the phone's file system, the device must be jailbroken and unshackled.

Although I can't recommend to anyone jailbreaking their devices, iFuntastic makes it a really tempting action, since its feature list includes a lot of goodies, such as advanced media conversion capabilities, email signatures, or the ability to watermark all graphics on the phone.

iFuntastic 6.2.2b1, the latest version of this handy tool to help you customize your iPhone, is as heavy as 52MB, and works with old PowerPC-based Macs, as well as the new ones, powered by Intel processors. Fortunately, you don't have to buy it at first sight, since a trial version is also available.

As a final note, the latest version adds support for version 2.2 of the firmware for iPhone and iPod Touch, and the only compatibility issue still without a solution is the fact that iFuntastic won't work with iPod Touch 2G, which cannot be jailbroken yet.
