How To Improve iPhone’s Battery Life, Part II

Welcome back to the second and final part of our article about how to improve the battery of your iPhone. We begin by telling you that you should keep the smartphone at room temperature. If you put the phone in the car’s glove compartment or if you expose it to direct sunshine, this will drain the battery faster because the phone will get hot.

The device functions well between 32-95 degrees Fahrenheit (0-35 degrees Celsius), while storing it should be done between -4 and 113 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 and 45 degrees Celsius). For both usage and storage, the ideal battery life environment is room temperature: 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius).

Moving on to another valuable tip, you might consider reducing the brightness level of the iPhone’s display. To do this you will have to go the Settings menu, click on Brightness and then drag the slider to the left in order to dim the brightness of the display. Another way to go would be by enabling the screen’s auto brightness function. When this feature is on, the display of the smartphone will be automatically adjusted in order to match the current lighting condition. For enabling this function you must go to Settings, then Brightness and after that set auto brightness to On. We’ve mentioned in the first part of the article that keyboard clicks can lower the battery life of the iPhone. If you are a regular user of the smartphone’s touch keyboard, then the constant need for generating audio keyboard clicks is going to increase the power consumption thus lower the battery life. For turning of these keyboard clicks you’ll have to go to Settings, click on Sounds and then select Off. We know that the audio equalizer of your iPhone adds a little bit of oomph to the songs that you have but you should know that at the same time it has a negative effect on the battery life of your smartphone due do the reason that the music equalizer (EQ) requires constant processing. If you want to turn this off you will have to go to the Settings menu, click on iPod and then Select EQ and click on Flat. We have two more tips for you which will help you increase the battery life of your Apple iPhone. The first one is about locking the device. As you would expect, if you lock the smartphone right after you finish using it, the display will turn off immediately so you will be sure that while it sits in your pocket you won’t accidentally call someone or activate one of those functions that drain a lot of battery.

To lock the phone you have to click on the Sleep/Wake button which is sitting in the upper right hand side of the smartphone. Last but certainly not least, a better way than manually locking your iPhone would be to activate the Auto-Lock feature. For doing this you must go to the Settings menu, click on the General tab, click on Auto-Lock and after that you will have to select the duration before the function kicks in. We hope that with these tips you will manage to improve the battery of your precious iPhone. If it is too late, have a look online as there are many guides that explain how to change the battery of this smartphone.

How To Improve iPhone’s Battery Life, Part I

Ever since the original iPhone came out, the smartphone’s battery has always been the subject of a debate, and even a few lawsuits since the phone’s introduction back in June 2007. Anyway, taking into consideration that the battery of the iPhone, regardless of its generation, is not easily replaceable and also due to the reason that lithium-ion batteries sooner or later degrade, it is crucial that you the most out of the battery of your smartphone while it lasts.

Apple has said on numerous occasions that after no less than 400 recharge cycles, the battery will still be able to retain 80% of its original power, but real life tests have shown that Apple has always been optimistic when it came down to the longevity of the iPhone’s battery.

The main aspect that you should keep in mind when you are trying to maximize the battery life of your iPhone is that the less you use the phone, the longer the life of the battery will be. As a consequence, if you are one of those users that constantly check their e-mails, surfs the Internet, listens to music and makes calls, the battery of your phone will be depleted much faster. In addition, keep in mind that there are several background processes which will drain the battery faster. Some examples of such processes include keyboard clicks, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. You have to think about whether you really must have the Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi on at all times. If the answer to this question is no, then make sure that you turn these off in order to preserve precious juice and only turn these features on when you really need them.

In the following paragraphs, we will offer some tips that you should take into consideration for improving the battery life of your iPhone, but even so you probably won’t be able to extend it to the 250 hours of standby time claimed by Apple. What you will probably get is about a 20-25% improvement in the life of the battery which isn’t half bad. The first tip that we would like to offer is to change the e-mail autochecking from every 15 hours to at least one hour, unless you are an extremely busy person and you get a lot of e-mails very frequently. In order to do this, you must go to Settings and click on Mail. Now you have to click on Auto Check and then select the interval that you desire, or you might want to turn off the e-mail auto checking feature to preserve battery even further. Another tip that we can give you concerns the Wi-Fi connection. As we said before, if you do not need a constant Wi-Fi connection, you should turn it off as Wi-Fi really drains a lot of the iPhone’s battery. Wi-Fi should be on only when you really need it. For turning it off you have to go to Settings and then click on Wi-Fi, and after that tap the Off button.

One last tip that we can give you in this first part of the article is about turning off Bluetooth when you do not need it. To do this you’ll have to go into the Settings menu, click on General, Select Bluetooth and after that select Off. Join us for the second part of the article where we share other tips.

How to Use Siri on Your iPhone 4S, Part I

One of the most interesting features of the new iPhone 4S is Siri, your speech-recognition “personal assistant”. It is indeed a very useful feature but it takes some time until you get the hang of it. From the beginning we should mention that this is not an application in the iPhone sense as it isn’t something that you can download from the App Store. In addition, you won’t find an icon on your phone for it.

When you get your brand new iPhone 4S, Siri comes fully pre-loaded on the device but you will have to set it up before you can take full advantage of what it has to offer. First of all, Siri is going to need your name and also the language that you speak. To configure this you must go to Settings, then General, then Siri. Now, you will have to go to My Info and then select your name from your Contacts list. You will also have to select the preferred language: UK English, US English, French, German and Australian English. While you are in this menu you might want to configure the rest of the options available, such as voice feedback and raise to speak.

As far as accessing Siri is concerned, you basically have two ways of using it: from afar and up close. Those of you that would like to use this feature of the iPhone 4S while the handset is at a comfortable distance from where you are, like in the situation in which the device is sitting on a tabletop, you will have to press & hold the home button. You will hear two quick tones, along with seeing a picture of a microphone on the display, which means that Siri is now listening to what you have to say. Remember that you won’t have to hold the 4S near year face in order for Siri to hear you. The other way to use Siri is to pick up the smartphone and hold it to your ear, just like if you were having a conversation with someone on the other line. You will hear two short tones once again, which means that Siri is waiting for your command. Now, we shall offer some tips for using Siri which you might want to consider for improving your “relationship” with your very own personal assistant. Theoretically speaking, you shouldn’t have any problems with Siri while you are talking with your normal voice at a normal pace, but reality has shown that this isn’t always the case. It is recommended that you should clearly enunciate proper names and also if you phrase commands in certain ways it will generate more accurate results.

As you probably know this by know, Siri doesn’t process what you tell it locally on your smartphone as this software needs a 3G or a Wi-Fi signal for sending the command through a remote server. You will also have to be specific when talking to Siri because it will get confused right away if you tell it to do something general, such as “launch iTunes”. It helps if you give it more specific commands. Join us for the second part of the article where we will share other tips that you could follow in order to take full advantage of what Siri for the Apple iPhone 4S has to offer.

iPhone 4S On Verizon Part 2

The hardware improvements brought to the camera are easily seen in the image quality. The focus is now a little bit sharper while the colors are brighter on the 4S. In addition, there is less pixilation to worry about and it also performs significantly better in low light, but the flash could have been more powerful.

As for the user experience, this has remained just about the same, but you do get new options for rotating and cropping the photo, along with the single-tap correction and red-eye reduction modes. The videos can now be recorded at up to 1080p HD at 30 fps and with video stabilization. As you would expect, the 8 megapixel camera of the iPhone 4S manages to record sharp videos with naturally fluid movements while the sound is matching what happens on the screen.

The one sold by Verizon is a dual-band world phone which means that you have the possibility to make CDMA calls while when roaming abroad it will switch to GSM mode. Verizon has said that they can unlock the preloaded SIM of the 4S upon request. Keep in mind that this iPhone is still using a Micro-SIM so you might run into a little bit of a problem in finding one at a prepaid international service.

The Apple iPhone 4S sold by Verizon is running on the carrier’s 3G EV-DO Rev. A. network that is capable of providing speeds of up to 1,400Kbps while the average upload speed varies from 500Kbps - 800Kbps, which is just about the same as the 4S sold by Sprint. One bad news is that the CMDA models are not permitting simultaneous data and voice transmission due to the limitation of the CDMA technology. Word on the street is that new chips are on their way but most likely we’ll get to see them in the iPhone 5. The biggest disappointment for the iPhone 4S sold by Verizon and Sprint would have to be the lack of 4G support. The 4S is powered by a dual core Apple A5 processor clocked at 1.0 GHz and it also has a dual core GPU. According to the manufacture, the 4S is twice as fast and it can offer 7x the graphics performance of the iPhone 4. If you have used the previous model you will certainly notice that its successor is significantly quicker, managing to open the apps almost in an instant, while switching between the opened applications is done quite fast and smooth.

Even though it packs more punch under the hood, Apple says that the new iPhone 4S is capable of providing a battery life of 8 hours in 3G mode while in 2G mode you should be able to squeeze up to 14 hours. The battery can last for approximately 6 hours during web browsing over a 3G connection while over a Wi-Fi network you should get 3 hours more. The battery of the 4S should be able to survive for 40 hours of music playback or 10 hours of video playback. The 16GB version of the Apple iPhone 4S is available at Verizon Wireless for $199.99 while the 32GB model will set you back $299.99. If you want more internal memory, opt for the 64GB version of the 4S which costs $399.99 with a two-year contract.

iPhone 4S On Verizon

Available for many mobile carriers, including Verizon Wireless, the iPhone 4S brings several improvements over its predecessor which as you probably know still is an excellent device. New is the 64GB version of the model, a dual core CPU that offers more speed, a better camera and Siri which you can consider as the phone’s personal assistant. Verizon manages to offer great data speeds and top notch call quality, just about the same as the iPhone 4.

Design-wise, the 4S looks virtually the same as its predecessor which is a good thing in our opinion. The iPhone 4S can be considered as a bulky phone if we have a look at the latest trends in the smartphone industry where most of the manufacturers are rolling out very slim devices. The good thing about the iPhone 4S is that it feels solid when you hold it in your hands. Keep in mind that even though the 4 and the 4S are just about the same, some of the cases used on the 4 are not suitable for the 4S due to the reason that the latter has the ambient light sensor in another place.

The Retina Display has remained just as awesome as before but we would have hoped that Apple made it a bit larger, like a 4-inch display for example. As far as the reception issues of the previous model, these have been fixed as the 4S comes with two antennas and the phone can use the one that it’s offering the best signal. The latest iteration of the iPhone comes with all of the features of the previous models, like weather, voice memos, calendar and stock applications, Google Maps, a bunch of clock features, text messaging & e-mail, a compass, along with the Notes app. You also get the iPod player and support for Bluetooth 4.0 which needs less power and can enable the phone to “talk” to small-sized device that are battery-operated, like the Nike+ sensors. One of the major novelties with the 4S is the inclusion of Siri which is a new voice assistant that doesn’t replace the phone’s regular Voice Control feature entirely. What Siri can do is follow your commands and also answer the questions that you ask. You will be speaking to a robotic female voice and for accessing the features you must hold down the Home key. To find a response Siri needs Google search and your location, which means that you must have either a cellular or a Wi-Fi connection available.

The five megapixel camera of the iPhone 4 was very good while the 8 mpx unit of the 4S is even better. It features f/2.4 aperture lens, autofocus, flash, and it also comes with a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor that is capable of allowing 73% more light in comparison to the sensor in the iPhone 4 so the low-light performance has been improved significantly. In order to improve the accuracy of the color, Apple decided to install a hybrid IR filter. The A5 CPU that powers the smartphone comes with an incorporated image processor which makes the camera 33% faster than before. In addition, the camera now features face detection while the auto white balance has been improved by 26%. Join us for part two of the article about the iPhone 4S on Verizon
