Be Sure Your iPhone Is Properly Seated

Being a mobile phone, it's obvious most people carry their iPhone everywhere, including on the road, when they drive their cars. Different to what usually happens with other phones, most iPhones make their owners extremely proud of them, and they need to be in sight all the time (correct me if I'm wrong here), so the WindowsSeat from Griffin should be a great choice for those having Apple's phone in their pocket...

Griffin WindowSeat

As you can see in the shot above, the WindowSeat iPhone is a mount that can hold your iPhone nicely in sight, and it attaches itself to your windshield(that's not obvious in the picture, but I am sure you got the idea). This windshield mount from Griffin was announced yesterday, and since with the last iPhone applications, you can turn your iPhone into a GPS, it's also very useful, not simply a device from the "look-at-my-iPhone" category.

The high grip silicone pad takes care of your iPhone mount to stay where it should, and the materials used for the device allow it to easily whitstand temperature shifts, while the swivelving ball and socket joints allow you to adjust the viewing angle and keep your new setting unchanged.

Unfortunately, Griffin's WindowSeat is not yet available, being scheduled to ship in March, for a mere $20.

40 iPhones Have Been Stolen

Being given the fact that we're living in the 21st Century, it becomes more and more incredible for me to believe that someone would leave precious iPhones in the window of the store over night, only missing to attach labels saying "ready to be stolen". We're not talking about 1, we're not talking about 5, because now, somewhere in the US, a thief is 40 iPhones richer! How did this happen? Let's see...
40 Stolen iPhones

First of all, we have the location - Salem, Oregon. The time and date of the theft: 4AM, on the 9th of January. Salem Police Department officers responded the burglary alarm quickly, but they only managed to discover a broken window, without any traces that could lead to the thief, so far.

The damage done is this: 40 brand-new iPhones, as well as various other cell phones and accessories that came in handy for the thief to grab, and let's not forget about the broken window(yeah, right)!

Reading all the above, you would believe this was a job that happened in a small store owned and run by someone's old grandmother, but this is not the truth. The story took place at the A.T.&T. Wireless Store, 200 Hawthorne Av SE, which leaves me speechless... almost, because I have to add this: "if you have any information related to this case, call the Criminal Investigations Section at (503)588-6050".

First Trojan For The iPhone Is Around

To my amazement, it passed a lot of time already since the iPhone was released, and no news about malware threats affecting it emerged, but the sad truth is that it finally happened: reports about first Trojan for the iPhone were heard here and there, and security research companies started to confirm their validity only a bit later...
Malware

Are you scared? No? Good, because you don't even have to be scared. While F-Secure confirmed that this Trojan is a harmful one, as long as you keep it on your gadget, when uninstalled, it removes various files from the /bin folder and can render unusable applications like Sendfile or Erica's Utilities.

How can this be avoided? Very simple! First of all, if you didn't change anything on your iPhone, you should sleep well, because the Trojan only targets iPhones modded by their owners to install third-party applications.

While I am also one of those that like to mod what can be modded most of the time, I can't say I disagree with F-Secure's position regarding this evil piece of code - "Hopefully this serves as a warning for those who have opened their iPhones using a security hole in the system and then installing unverified software without a second thought to what they are doing.".

So far, so good, but one lesson should be learned from all this. "If it works, don't update it. If you want features that your model doesn't have, buy one that has them, but don't mod it." Especially since it seems an 11 year old that was playing with XML files created this so-called Trojan, I think this is more of a storm in a glass of water rather than a real threat, but it should be remembered as the first Trojan(more or less...) for the iPhone...

Keep Your iPhone Safe With Titan Clear

The iPhone is probably the gadget that got the most press coverage in 2007, and it continues to remain an object for desire for a lot of people, especially since it wasn't even officially released in some parts of the world. Unlike the iPod, the iPhone doesn't have so many protective cases available to purchase, so I was really happy to discover GizMac's Titan Clear, despite the fact I don't have an iPhone(maybe just "not yet")...
GizMac Titan Clear for iPhone

The Titan Clear for iPhone is a case and holster for your beloved phone from Apple, and its tough, crystal clear polycarbonate shell allows you to keep your eyes on the gadget, while protecting it from shocks and scratches, at the same time.

As one would expect, this shell offers open access areas for controls, camera and headphones (and dust or liquids too, I must add), while the retractable horizontal and vertical kickstands built into the case allow you to easily view movies, videos, calls and more, as you can see in the picture at the beginning of this article.

The product is already shipping for a price of $34.99, and if you think your iPhone would look good in a Titan Clear case (despite my evil remark about the open access areas, I think this case is great), simply go to this page and order yours!

Extend Your iPod’s Battery Life

If there would be a way to extend your iPod's battery life without purchasing anything else, believe I would show that to you, but the only method I can think of is to use your iPod less...and that's not a good one, obviously. Fortunately, Energizer thought of something to help you keep you iPod's in business for a longer time...

Longer iPod Battery Life

Yesterday, the Energi To Go for iPod was revealed by Energizer, and this device is as simple as possible. While I was thinking about an additional power cell, before reading the whole mumbo-jumbo, things are not as I expected, because Energizer's Energi To Go uses two AA batteries, to give you over 40 hours of audio playback, or 11 hours of video, but only when used with Energizer's e2 Lithium cells. Obviously, different other batteries will produce better or worse results...The good part of the deal is that you'll also get two Energizer e2 Lithium batteries in the pack, but pricing and availability weren't announced yet. Anyway, one thing is sure - if you're going to CES 2008, you'll see the Energi To Go in action there, so try not to miss it!
