Apple TV 2.2 Problems

Yesterday, Apple updated iTunes, bringing it up to version 8.0.1, as well as the
Apple TV software, who got up to version 2.2. Considering the many software updates coming from Apple lately, and the fact these were only minor updates, I didn't say anything about them, but I must confess I wasn't expecting for the first problems to arrive so soon. It's not about the iTunes, since some of us already had to face the BSOD caused by iTunes 8 in Vista; it's even worse - we're talking about serious Apple TV 2.2 problems!

Before moving on to the Apple TV 2.2 problems, let's see what's new in this update, shall we? As you probably imagined, they added basic playlist functionality like Genius playlist and On-the-Go playlist creation, but there's more to it, as you can see on the official Apple TV software updates page. Now, let's see what could be even more serious than the BSOD faced by iTunes 8 users!

The scenario that happened to a lot of Apple TV owners goes like this - you happily update your software, thinking about the new features, and you reboot. Nothing wrong, so far, only that you noticed a second reboot. And a third one. And so on...

Yes, my friends, this is the sad truth - the Apple TV 2.2 problems are really worse than some BSOD. While the BSOD can be avoided, if you get lucky, once you get an unusable Apple TV, there's nothing left to do, since not even unplugging it doesn't solve anything, so all that's left is resetting the device to its factory settings...

All in all, I strongly advise you to stay away from this last update. The interesting part is that, according to the latest reports, the problems were with Apple's authentication servers or something like that, since most people who ran into Apple TV 2.2 problems are now living la vida loca with the Apple TV 2.2 working as a charm!
