Apple iPhone 2g Vs. 3g

posted in Apple, by adimoga

The iPhone is a line of internet and multimedia enabled smartphones developed, produced and marketed by Apple Inc. The iPhone can be used as a mobile phone, for calling and texting(some newer models also include video calling capability), a multimedia manager, for storing and playing music and video files, as well as images, or an internet and browser-based platform for navigating the internet by Wi-Fi technology.

The iPhone uses third party applications(commonly known as Apps)which allow users to explore a large diversity of information with the device. In order to work proper, the applications must be approved by Apple itself and obtained through the company's online store called the AppStore. If not, one may experience certain technical or software problems which will not be covered by the warranty. The applications divide into various domains such as games, GPS, social, networking, and others. There are currently four models of the Apple iPhone available, the first one being released in 2007 and the last one in 2010.

However, between the second and the third generation of the device seem to be pretty much the same. So, the question is, which should you choose and why? The following have a descriptive purpose and will help you make up your mind whether to buy a second generation iPhone 3G, or a third generation iPhone 3GS.

The iPhone 3G
The iPhone 3G is the second generation of Apple's famous iPhone serie of internet and multimedia enabled smartphones. It was the successor of the original iPhone and was succeeded by the iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 3G was very similar to the original device, as it holds the same 2 megapixels camera which does not support video recording, and the same 128 MB quantity of eDRAM memory. However, it was not identical to the original device as it presented several improvements such as Assisted GPS, support for 3G data or Quad-Band UMTS/HSDPA. Like it's predecessor, the iPhone 3G is controlled by a multi touch fingertip sensitive LCD display.

Users interact with the device by using bare fingers on the screen's surface. The operating system used for this phone is the same used for all other iPhone models, and also for the iPod Touch series and the iPad tablet computer (basically every Apple device that uses the multi touch technology). The phone's screen is a liquid crystal display of 3.5 inches with a 320x480 resolution (HVGA) running at 163 ppi(pixels per inch). The display is covered by a scratch resistant glass. The iPhone 3G has the same sensors as its predecessor, which are the proximity sensor that deactivates the display and touchscreen during a call so battery would be saved and also for preventing features from being activated close to the face and ears. Most of the iPhone 3G's hardware is based on the original iPhone's configuration as it still has the Samsung 32-bit RISC ARM11 620 MHz processor underclocked at 412 Mhz), a PowerVR MBX Lite 3D GPU, and 128 MB of eDRAM.

The iPhone 3GS
The iPhone 3GS is the third generation iPhone which was released at one year after the 3G. As its predecessor, the iPhone 3GS uses a multi touch sensitive LCD screen with a 480x320 resolution and 163 ppi. This model supports 24-bit color emulation so the display is richer. Also, an oleophobic coat was added to prevent excessive fingerprints. The iPhone 3GS is powered by the Samsung APL0298C05 chip and it comes in 16 GB or 32 GB versions. The most important change is the adding of a more powerful camera which supports video recording.
