Macbooks are portable devices, very good and useful, but still they have reduced sizes when compared to a desktop computer. It makes then lighter , so more portable. Let's face it: you wouldn't carry a 10 kilo laptop around just because you have one. That is the reason why the screen has to be reduced, too. Usually this is not a problem, as the present size of Macbooks is perfectly compatible with the applications you normally run on a laptop. You can edit texts, photos, play computer games, surf the internet and read your email messages or communicate with friends, whatever you might want to do.



But sometimes, you wish your Macbook had a larger screen, so that you can enjoy your favorite movie while sitting in bed, without having to sit up in an uncomfortable position, staring at the little images that do not offer the pleasure of a widescreen movie. That is exactly why some creative guys from Apple thought of a trick to make your dream possible and to allow you to feel like you were inside a cinema hall, with wide screen and surround audio system. So they made it possible for you to watch the movies you have on your Macbook hard drive on the screen of your Samsung LCD TV. But how to connect a Macbook to a Samsung LCD? Well, it's not that hard.



First of all make sure both devices work properly and then turn them off while connecting all the cables that make the connection possible. Make sure you know exactly what you need and purchase them before starting the connection. Because the Macbook has a DVI port out and the TV usually has a HDMI port that allows a better connection and a better quality of the image, try to find an adapter  - DVI to HDMI and make sure you purchase the right length because otherwise you will be forced to keep the two devices really close to each other and this is not always possible. The adapter must be connected at one end of the HDMI cable, making it possible for it to enter the mini - DVI port at the back of your Macbook.

So far you have made it to have video transfer between the two devices, but you still need audio, too. So you will need a three-way headphone to RCA cable, that looks like three differently colored cables connected at one end that finishes with a thin plug. The three colors are usually black, white and red. You have to insert the black one in the headphone port belonging to your Macbook and the other two in the audio H ports that you will find at the back of your Samsung TV screen. That should be all.



Now that you know how to connect a Macbook to a Samsung LCD, you will have to check if it works, so turn on both devices. Normally the Samsung LCD should be already detected as an external monitor, but if it is not, enter the System preferences and then Select displays. Use the remote control of your Samsung LCD and select the HDMI 2 , thus telling the TV to use that port and fortunately you will be able to watch your favorite movies on a large display, with all the benefits coming from this.
