Intended for consumer and educational markets, the MacBook was developed in three different designs. The first model was basically modeled after the notebook it replaced, the PowerBook G4.It is a polycarbonate and fiberglass combination case notebook. The second version is 13-inch display notebook made from aluminum, which has been rebranded as the 13-inch MacBook Pro due to its stunning resemblance to the 15-inch MacBook Pro.The third installment to the MacBook family has a unibody polycarbonate case,as aluminum is now dedicated for high-end MacBook Pro models of the MacBook only.

The MacBook presented innovative features for a notebook although it is basicaly modeled after the PowerBook G4 and presents its standard features as well. Some of these features are the glossy display, the sunken keyboard design or the non-mechanical magnetic latch, among others. The keyboard suffered further modifications as 2007 found it looking like the keyboard shipped with the iMac.The original polycarbonate MacBook was the first notebook to come in more than a single color. The success of the MacBook only lasted until the release of the alluminium case MacBook Pro.
The MacBook Pro:Aluminum over polycarbonate
The MacBook Pro is the second Apple product of the Apple-Intel transition after the Apple iMac desktop system. It currently comes in three distinct sizes:the 13-inch screen display model, the 17-inch screen display model, and the 15-inch screen display model.Originally there were only two MacBook Pro models, both made out of aluminum, the 15 and 17-inch version. The 13-inch version is a rebrandment of the 13-inch MacBook model, due to its similarity to the 15-inch MacBook Pro.The 13-inch model is also fabricated from aluminum. The configuration of the original two models have been upgraded after the release,as late 2006 found them receiving Core 2 Duo proccessor technology. The original 15-inch MacBook Pro was announced by Steve Jobs at the Macworld Conference and Expo in January 2006.

The 17-inch model of the MacBook Pro was also introduced later that year,in April. All MacBook Pro model present changes and upgrades from the PowerBook G4,including the implementation of an iSight web camera,or adding the MagSafe technology which allows the user to easily pull the cable from the notebook, without the machine being pulled off from various surfaces.A great deal of upgrade is represented by the MacBook Pros porting.Various ports were added or changed, including the video output port(DVI instead of VGA),or the USB port update (from 1.0 to 2.0).
