The MacBook is the most successful Machintosh notebook computer serie built for public consume and educational market from Apple,as NPD(a sales-research company) confirmed that it was the single best-selling notebook computer of any brand in the U.S retail stores for five months until October 2008.The MacBook was developed in three different designs.The original MacBook was modeled after the notebook it has replaced,the PowerBook G4.Its case is made out of a combination of polycarbonate and fiberglass.
The second model of the MacBook arrived in 2008,alongside the 15-inch model of the MacBook Pro.This model (the second installment of the MacBook) has a similar look to the 15-inch MacBook Pro,reason for which it has been rebranded as the 13-inch Pro.This model has an aluminum case.October 2009 represented the release year of the third model.Because aluminum was now dedicated to the Pro serie,the case of the third installment was made out of unibody polycarbonate shell.
The MacBook Pro has two versions,the first one being mostly a carry-over from the PowerBook G4 notebook that it replaced,using an Intel Central Core processor.The first version had a 15-inch display and was released in January 2006,followed by a second installment,this time a 17-inch model,in April,same year.As both models were given several updates,late 2006 found the MacBook Pros benefiting of the Core 2 Duo proccesor technology.
The 15-inch version was announced at the Macworld Conference&Expo. by Steve Jobs.The MacBook Pro presents several upgrades from the PowerBook which include the iSight Camera and implementation of MagSafe.Another upgrade is the memory card slot.The PowerBook PC card was replaced by a Express card/34.This upgrade is available on both 15-inch and 17-inch versions,as the USB and FireWire 400 ports differ a little bit.The 15-inch Pro has two USB 2.0 slots and one FireWire400 port,as the 17-inch version benefits of an extra USB 2.0 port.
However,features like FireWire and S-Video were absent from the original versions of both 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pros. If FireWire was added on newer models,the S-Video problem could be solved with the help of a DVI to S-Video adapter.All models include built-in Ethernet,Wi-Fi and Bluetooth,and newer versions have updated versions.Fore Example,the newer MacBook Pros include a 2.1 Bluetooth in stead of a 2.0 one.
Since 2006,Apple updated the MacBook Pro in every way possible,from memory and CPU update,to upgrading various types of available ports or adding new ones.Until a new installment of the MacBook Pro,or a new innovation from Apple,this notebook is the most successful Machintosh notebook computer,and the most successful Machintosh computer in general after the first Intel device made by Apple,the iMac.
