About iMac G5

In August 31, 2004 Apple released a new desktop Mac computer called iMac G5. Using the so called Power PC chip architecture, this new model of Mac computer has a thinner LCD monitor. One of the reasons why this monitor looks thinner is the fact that its main board and also optical drive are both placed behind the Liquid Cristal Display panel.

Some of the most important features of iMac G5 are: it’s PowerPC G5 processor (1.6, 1.8GHz) – you can use Mac OS 9 applications, an nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra GPU graphic system, Serial ATA hard drive, A V.92 modem, 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet port.


For 2 years after the first appearance after the new model, iMac G5 browsers a number of updates at the ram lever, hard drive or graphic improvements.



iMac G5 brings a new revolution in computer field. The Apple's senior vice president said at a conference that “With the entire system, including a gorgeous 17- or 20-inch display, just two inches thin, a lot of people will be wondering ‘where did the computer go?’ ”.

Many people do say iMac G5 is, in their opinion, the last step in the simplicity of the design, weight and appearance.


This perfect computer has the power supply, slot-load optical drive (in a word – almost the whole computer) placed on the display. All the I/O ports are placed in the right side. It also has Bluetooth capabilities.

With  high definition PowerPC G5 processor, Combo drive or professional quality DVD and a high performance NVIDIA graphics you can play, download  the best and realistic games. It also has build in microphones and stereo speakers.



With some great iTunes (you can buy or rent, load movies, music), iMovie (digital movie making), iPhone or iDVD you can design your computer in your way. In addition its 5 USB ports, its AirPort Extreme Card –for fast Ethernet and 10/100 Base T for fast Internet enhance the capabilities of this device.

Each iMac G5 comes with Mac OS V version 10.3 that includes iChat AV ( a video conference desktop solution), a great antivirus – FileVault, Automatic Networking – has the ability to switch between Ethernet, modem or wireless connection, Expose – you can view all your open windows WorldBook Encyclopedia 2004 Edition and other interesting titles that includes adventures and entertainment.

Do you have problems with your Intel Mac? Are there applications that do not work well on your Mac? You still need your Classic Mode and you don’t know why it’s not working on your Mac? You do have to know that Classic Mode is not supported by Intel Mac with a Leopard OS X installed. Moreover because of the fact that Power PC runs with software that requires a lot of memory it is recommended for you to use iMac G5 for your needs.

Are there disadvantages in using iMac G5? In time you could have System Management Unit problems, meaning there are errors at the following commands: turn on, sleep, turn off, wake up.
