In this article we have a look at how you can use Dropbox for your iPod Touch or iPhone. This is a very easy to use app and it helps you be more organized with your files while you are on the go.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

The first step that you need to take is to download the application which can be done in several ways. The first option that you have is to download it via iTunes. You must go to the Dropbox iTunes preview website and then select View in iTunes. Another way would be to do a search for Dropbox in iTunes App Store and then download it. An alternative would be to grab the application from the official Dropbox website.

Regardless of the method chosen, you will find Dropbox in your iTunes under the section Apps. If up until now you have not done so, you’ll have to go the Apps tab and check Sync Apps. After that drag Dropbox over the Home Screen and put it wherever you prefer. Once you have found a place for it you’ll have to click Apply which you can find at the lower right corner of your iTunes. After the synchronization process has completed you can now disconnect your iPhone or iPod Touch and start using Dropbox. Some users prefer downloading the software from the App Store directly from the iPhone/iPod Touch. To do this you have to search for Dropbox in the App Store. Once you find it you’ll have to download it and install it straight on your device. After the installation process has finished, look for the Dropbox icon on your phone. Once you tap on the icon you will be taken to the Dropbox login screen where you can enter your info if you already have an account. When you log in you have the possibility to check out the Welcome to Dropbox overview.

If you tap on My Dropbox you will be directed to your files & folders that are contained in your Dropbox. Now you are able to have a look through your files and folders that you have saved. If you go to Settings you’ll be able to modify Photo quality settings, get help, view a video of Dropbo, send feedback and other similar things. If you haven’t used Dropbox before you can find a video which explains how to use the app. There is also a useful Dropbox Help section where you can learn about doing some specific tasks. By sharing files from Dropbox you have the opportunity to share the files that you have within your personal Dropbox folders. If you want to share a picture via e-mail you’ll have to tap on the link icon located in the lower left corner of the screen. After that choose Email Link or you can Copy Link to Clipboard or Copy Image to Clipboard. Join us for the second part of the article about how to use Dropbox with your iPhone or iPod Touch.

After you have chosen the video that you want to watch, you will get to benefit from the potential of this application. What you must do is tap on “Play with Live Conversion” and you will be able to watch the video as it is being converted to a format which is recognized by the device you are playing it on.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

It will only take a few moments until the video will start and you will have the possibility to watch your video while it is being converted in the background of the application. In addition, you will get the usual set of video player controls.

After you have adjusted the size of the screen and the volume level, you will have to tap on the screen once again in order to hide these controls. You also have the possibility to select to convert the videos while you are doing something else with the device. The application is going to add the videos that you would like to convert to a Queue and then it will convert these videos one at a time. During the period in which the videos are converting, you have the ability to view the Queue on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. After that you can go back to the folders and find additional videos that you would like to convert. If you are going to convert several videos, the application will display a message that will let you know that the video has been added to the Conversion Queue. Needless to say, you are able to view this queue and see the level of progress of what is converting. Keep in mind that you can have a look at what is converting from the Air Video Server located under the Conversions tab.Up until now we have talked about how to stream content with the help of a Wi-Fi network, but you should know that you can also do this by using an Internet Connection such as 3G. To do this, the first step that you need to take is to make the Air Port Server secure. Go to Settings and then check Require Password and after that you will have to enter a strong password just to be safe. Now, on the Air Video Server you must choose the Remote tab and after that check Enable Access from Internet. After doing this, you will have to check Automatically Map Port. Now, select Test Connection. Remember to write down the server PIN because you will need it when connecting your device. Keep in mind that the aforementioned check automatically map port requires a router that has support for NAT-PMP or UPnP. If the test fails it means that there is something wrong with the router so you might want to manually configure its settings.

Once you have a successful connection test you will have to launch Air Video from your Apple device and tap on “+” once the Servers screen comes up. Now, choose Enter Server PIN and then enter the password that you have established earlier. After this, you must type in the server PIN and now you will get to see the server that you are accessing online and under it you’ll notice the server PIN. Now you can use it just as you would normally use a Wi-Fi network.

If you want to stream video from your computer to a portable Apple device over the Internet or Wi-Fi, you should know that there is a way for you to do this, streaming video to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad with the help of Air Video. The program is available as a free version and as a full version as well. The free one is going to limit the number of displayed folders, while with the full one you won’t have such restrictions. The full version is going to set you back only $2.99 which is a steal taking into consideration the potential of this software.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

To make the connection happen you will also have to download & install Air Video Server on your Windows or Mac OS X computer. This software is free and with it you will be able to stream video over Internet (including 3G) or a Wi-Fi network via Remote Access. It is going to convert the videos that normally your iOS-running device is not able to play to a format known by such devices. You will be happy to hear that it can convert all sorts of formats, such as MOV, MP4, DIVX, MPEG, FLV and others as well. Remember that Propriety codecs and DRM protected videos are not supported.

The first step that you need to take is to download and install the aforementioned Air Video Server program to your computer. Nothing complicated here, install as you would install another program by accepting the defaults. After the server launches you will have to click on Add Disk Folder which you can find under the Shared Folders tab. After doing this, you must browse to the location on your hard drive where you keep the videos that you plan on streaming to your iOS device. Remember that you are able to add as many locations as you prefer. A trick that we can share with you is that you can add an iTunes playlist if you are running iTunes.After completing this step, time has come to install the Air Video application on your Apple device. You can do this either via iTunes or directly from the App Store. Once you have installed it on your device you will have to click on the Air Video Free icon located in the main menu of your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. After that, click on the “+” button in order to start looking for server(s) that you have running. When you are on the Select Server screen you will have to choose the computer where you previously installed the server which we’ve talked about. Now you will have to pick one of the folders that you have added to the aforementioned Shared Folders tab on the Air Video Server. Keep in mind that the free version of the software is not going to display all of the folders at once.

If you will be clicking to display more items the program will prompt you to get the full version of the app. If you click Yes it will guide to the App Store where you have the possibility to acquire the full version of the application. Join us for the part two of our guide to learning how to stream video from Windows or OS X to an Apple device such as an iPhone, iPad or an iPod Touch

Apple MacBook Pro (2007 Model) Review, Part II

In comparison to other similar 15-inch, media-friendly systems that came out last year, the Apple MacBook Pro performed quite good, managing to be faster than the Vaio FZ180 from Sony and also the Pavilion dv6500t from HP. In addition, it was quicker than its predecessor but not by much. That year, the most significant update was for the 13-inch model which was fitted with a far superior GPU.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

Even so, the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT of the 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro (2007 model) performed nicely and was a huge boost over the previous ATI Mobility Radeon x1600. The laptop is capable of running Quake IV with anti aliasing turned on and at a resolution of 1,024 x 768 pixels at 65 fps, while the model before this one was capable of offering 42.1 fps.

Most likely the biggest upgrade was the battery department where thanks to the installation of an LED display and the use of Intel’s energy-efficient Centrino Do platform, the laptop is capable of lasting for about three and a half hours during a video playback test which is a half an hour more than the 2006 model which has a regular LCD display. What this means is that in normal conditions a new battery should resist for more than four hours which is a great performance even now, after five years. The successor of this model came out in 2008 and it had an Intel Core 2 Duo processor rated at 2.50 GHz while for the memory area it packed 4GB of DDR3. In the storage department Apple installed a 320GB spinning at 5,400 rpm while for the graphics department it has an integrated Nvidia GeForce 9400M and a dedicated video card in the form of an Nvidia 9600M GT with 512MB. We want to talk about the power-saving option of the 2008 model as it is a little bit frustrating. While switching between GPUs is simple since you only have to press a button on the power options menu, we have to mention that this changeover is not entirely transparent. Keep in mind that you have to log out and log back in again which means that you will have no other way but to close all of the apps and also save your data.

With the aforementioned GeForce 9600M graphics card turned on, this version of the MacBook Pro can last for about 3 hours and 15 minutes, which is an average performance for a 15-inch laptop, while with the dedicated video card turned off the laptop is capable of lasting for a little over 4 hours during a demanding video playback test so in normal working conditions you should be able to squeeze about 5 hours. We almost forgot to mention that the version equipped with the switchable graphics had a retail price tag of $2,499. As you probably have figured out, the 2008 version also came with faster DDR3 memory in comparison to the previous model that used the old DDR2 technology so the gap between these two models is quite significant which is why you should try to find a 2008 model if you can afford it. If not, for day-to-day tasks the 2007 model will do just fine with daily tasks and you won’t notice much of a difference between these two models, unless you want to play some games.
