History Of iMac

posted in hardware, by BindApple

The iMac is a line designed, released and manufactured by Apple Inc. as compact Macintosh desktop computers.  Since they started to produce this type of computers, in 1998, it has been the best sold product of this huge company, representing them primary interest and being used many times as the image of the company. It evolved, in 11 years in 4 different forms.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
The primary form, also known as iMac G3, was announced by Steve Jobs, after his promotion in the function as Apple's interim CEO, in 1997. At the end of that year, the company started to produce the G3 All- in- one, that was an exactly copy of the Power Macintosh G3 series and was sold only for educational purpose. Needing a replacement for the Performa series, because the lake of buyers, Apple started to produce the iMac G3 on 15 august 1998.
history-of-imac

There was a shock between the consumers because the iMac had a new and totally different concept than any other computer from the market.  It was fabricated from a colored plastic, translucent, also known as Bondi Blue and had the shape of an egg. The monitor was a cathode ray tube type and had 15 inch dimensions. On the right side of the device it was a hole, hidden by a door, under which was the computer interface. The G3 had two built in speakers and a headphone jack slot. The design was made under the signature of Jonathan Ive, the actual Vice President of Apple's Design section.

The G3 can boasts that it was the first computer with an integrated USB slot, for keyboards and mice and also renounced to the classical diskette drive, presented in every Mac from 1984.

The keyboard and the mouse were made from the same material as the computer, the blue translucent plastic but was a little smaller than the elder Apple's  peripherals The mouse had also a new design, looking like a puck, perfect for those who have a larger hand.

The second major revision of the iMac line it was made in 2002. The iMac G4 was produced until the middle of the 2004 year.  This computer had a new and thinner look, and was meant to replace its older brother, the iMac G4.  The CRT monitor was replaced by a LCD of 15 inches, mounted on an adaptable arm, fixed in a hemisphere. Because of this flexible leg, the iMac G4 was nicknamed iLamp.
history-of-imac

The iLamp upgrades made from it a reference point at that moment.  The monitors were available in 2 options, a 17 inches one and a 20 inches, both widescreen that raised a lot the price of the entire device, comparatively with the elder G3.

The iMac G5 replaced the G4 product in august 31, 2004. Reactions were divided. Some of the critics said that it is less aesthetic but most of them observed the power of this computer. It used the Power PC architecture, a RISC chip born from a huge collaboration between Apple, Motorola and IBM, in 1991.

This form of iMac line was the last that could run on a Mac 9 operating system.  In 2004, in the month of august, they redesigned the G5. Since this moment, the Power PC 970 was tested on the Power Macintosh G5 line, so that they upgraded also the iMac line.  Because this upgrade needed a larger case, the general line of the computer was redrawn.

They upgraded again this form in October 2005. This time it had a thinner design line, a new interface using Front Row, and an iSight web camera above the monitor. The disadvantage was that it didn't have the classic VESA flat display mounting interface.

history-of-imac2

The last form of the iMac lines is the current iMac Intel based. It was announced at Macworld Conference and Expo from 10 January, 2006, by, Steve Jobs. It is the first Macintosh that uses an Intel processor.

The introduction of this product was the start of an entire transition of Apple products from the old Power PC processors to those that wear the signature of Intel.  This product is available with 3 types of processors, depending on user's needs and options. The buyer can choose between an Intel Core 2 Duo, an Intel Core i5, or the new Intel Core i7. Also, there are available and two options for the graphic card: an ATI Radeon HD 4850 or an nVidia GeForce 9400 M.  Except these changes, the iMac Intel based remained absolutely the same as its predecessor, the iMac G5. However, thanks to the new upgrade of the processor, this form of iMacs, it is double faster than the early generation, according to the results of the SPEC tests.

GelaSkins is a current fashion for laptops and other gadgets like iPhone, iPods, and phones. There are a lot of sites that are recommending covering your MacBooks with a GelaSkins design, not only to make them more attractive, but to protect their cases from scratches. Million of users, day by day, are searching for amazing drawings or images to personalize their gadgets, so that, a new industry has born.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
There are specialized stores or individual people who can make your gadgets look greater, but, also, you can do it by yourself if you have a lot of patience.

GelaSkins recently announced a line of covers special made for Apple's products. They are special because are a little thinner than the covers made for any other kind of laptop models. The GelaSkins are a little too expensive, even if they don't cover your entire bottom surface of the MacBook, their price could go up to 33 dollars. But, despite the big price, everybody think them worth it, because it is a way to change your favorite gadget's look and to add it a new and fresh look, and also implementing your personal signature on its design.

nevermind-gelaskin

Personally, I am pretty tired of all these silver or black laptops and when I see a lot of people with almost the same case model, I'm wondering how that they recognize their devices.

To "pimp" your MacBook , all by yourself, you need first to acquire a GelaSkins cover. With a simple study over it you will see that under the drawn face, on the other side, it has a sticky part that will come right on your case and will keep the model on it. You can buy these skins from specialized shops or searching the internet for online stores that sell this product for your type of MacBook. Some producers will let you design your own drawn and will make you a GelaSkins from every picture you will send them or they will provide you a design tool with a lot of templates that can be combined, for a plus of originality.
rtemagicc_methamphibian_gelaskin

Once you entered in the possession of your favorite GelaSkins, you will need to make the second step. For this you will need to have a soft piece of material that is able to clean every impurity from your case. With large moves and patience remove every speck of dust and other dirties from your MacBook. This step needs to be made for a better adhesion. If you had in the past another bumper sticker and you removed, but have left some traces of its presence, try to remove them with a special diluent  solution that will not alter the material from what the MacBook is made.

When you are sure that your laptop is more than clear, and the front surface don't have any oscillation of level, remove the protective paper from your GelaSkins and try to stick it slow to the MacBook's front. Pay attention to not get any air bubble under it because this will make the GelaSkins to look weird and have some folds.

I will try to describe some of the most popular GelaSkins at this moment, so that if you want one but you are undecided, to try to help you in a future election.

The Hotrod pinup girl it is a drawn made by Gianluca Mattia and it is a tribute to the vintage photos of the classical photos with hot girls driving some nice cars, so popular in the 70's years. As you expected, the drawn represents a blonde  girl, wearing in a red dress, which drives an old car and keeps in her hand the 8 ball from billiard. Nothing spectacular but you have to know that it is one of he best sold GelaSkins from the market.

MacBook Shin Heart Cell is for those who prefer the light colors and are eternal  lovers. The design is a simple one, made in red and white colors. It has some flying read hearts, on a white background and a precise cut out Apple logo in the middle of one heart. Again, this is one of the best sold GelaSkins.

For the Matrix fans, the  science fiction block buster of the  year 1999, GelaSkins created a cover with the classical symbol of this movie, the binary language in green, on a black background, with an Apple logo on the middle, of white color.

phpthumb_generated_thumbnailjpg

My favorite is from afar, the Miss coquelicots , a true piece of art. It has a Japanese girl in the middle, dressed in a traditional geisha costume of a green color, and decorated with a red corset. She has some red tulips in her hair and other flying tulips around. The background has a crude green color that fade to a dirty white.

There are a lot of models and choices of GelaSkins for MacBooks an if you want to personalize and add a little stylish and elegance to your favorite gadget, for sure this will be a good choice.

Why Jailbreak iPhone 3G

posted in hardware, by BindApple

Jailbreaking is the name of  a process that will allow the  persons that use iPhone and iPod Touch to run codes that don't have the official Apple's authorization, and that are not downloaded from the App Store. After the complete jailbroken process, iPhone users can  download a lot of applications and programs that couldn't work before on their devices because they didn't had the Apple's unique signature. There is some unofficial installers software like Cydia, Rock App, Icy, or Installer. Cydia is the most used program, while Rock App features a small catalog full with paid applications. Icy and Installer are very rarely used and are unsupported even by their developers. The person who founded Cydia, Jay Freeman, made the approximate estimation of this business and found that   that over 4 million from the  totally of 40 million units of iPods and iPhones sold all over the world are jailbroken.

Jailbreaking is not the same with the SIM unlocking, that  is the process by which a mobile device is become compatible with the networks that aren't supposed to work on them.

The iPhone OS has been subject to a variety of different hacks for a variety of reasons, centered on adding functionality not supported by Apple.

The iPhone Dev Team is a group of cyberpunks in the iPhone OS community that have released a lot of ingenuous  tools capable to enable the use of applications unauthorized on the iPhone and iPod Touch  and to make possible  the use of the iPhone on GSM carriers without official authorization from Apple. These softwares are made to provide to the owners the capacity to avoid the restrictions of devices, letting for activities such as deep custom make and easy roaming. The hackers and their programs became a symbol for this activity that is named jailbreak.

The iPhone Dev Team's programs have been applied on over 1,6 million devices all over the world and their blog collected hundreds  of commentaries on every post that announce a new release of a software, in only few hours.

With the arrival of the iPhone operating system 2.0, the user's community has been concentrated over the jailbreak of these devices. Anterior to iPhone 2.0 official release, jailbreaking was the only method to allow 3rd -party programs on the device. Now with iPhone 2.0, original applications are permitted under Apple's SDK agreement terms, even thought some functionality are prohibited on the iPhones or iPods. From these category of prohibited functions are included and the background applications, or the capability for 3rd -party softwares to run after seeming to have stopped, and the capability to change the applications written for the device by Apple itself. Some started efforts to disable Apple's kill switch option, even though these efforts were mostly leaved behind once the kill switch was demonstrated that will only disable Core Location.

The other greater concentration of attention to the jailbreaking since the official release of 2.0 operating system, has been to reverse the SIM Lock that is pushed to the most of the iPhone devices. The 1st generation of iPhones can be totally  unlocked with the iPhone Dev Team's Boot Neuter software, and the iPhone 3G can become unlocked with a new beta attempt named  yellowsn0w initially that become ultrasn0w.

More recently, many attempts have been centered on  extending the Bluetooth capacities of the iPhone. Despite this, many of the actions  stopped due to the preview of the iPhone 3.0 operating system on March 17, 2009, that had, among other features , upgraded the  Bluetooth capabilities.

After some days from the  official release of the 3.0 version of this operating system , updated instructions and softwares to jailbreak and unlock 3G iPhones were released by the iPhone Dev Team.

The iPhone Dev Team declared that the softwares that are able to jailbreak the iPod Touch 2G or to unlock the iPhone 3G will also be able to do the same things to the  iPhone 3GS.

On July 3, 2009 Geo Hot made available the purplera1n, a software able to jailbreak an iPhone 3GS that have the 3.0 version of the iPhone OS X implemented. The iPhone Dev Team later brought out an updated version of the redsn0w jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlock for the iPhone 3GS.

Also, the iPhone Dev Team released and an update to their Pwnage Tool program on October 2, 2009, capable of the  jailbreaking of OS 3.1 on the iPhone 3GS devices.

On October 11, 2009, Geo Hot released blackra1n, a software that is able to jailbreak firm ware versions of up to the latest ones, between all other iDevices, the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3rd G. Blackra1n holds even iPhone 3GS which has 3.1.2 installed out- of- the- box.

Intel iMac Base

posted in software news, by BindApple

iMac has always succeeded to make the most amazing and interesting things in the computer's technology industry. At this moment the principal characteristics of this line released by Apple Inc. at the start of 1998, are being doubled and optimized because the Macintosh line started a collaboration with the world's bigger semiconductor chip maker, Intel.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
Core Duo is a line of processors covering an area of Intel's consumer 64 bit x86-64 single, dual, and quad-core CPUs founded on the Intel Core micro architecture. The single and dual core models are mono-die. On the other hand, the quad-core models are  composed of 2 dies, each including 2 cores, enclosed in a protective covering of a  multi-chip module. The release of Core 2 banished the Pentium line from the high-end market to the mid-range market, and reunited laptop and desktop processor lines, which antecedently had been separated into the Pentium 4, Pentium D, and Pentium M brands. The Core Duo processor was released at the start of 2006, and was added to the iMac models after few months since Steve Jobs announced their release at the Macworld Conference and Expo, in North America.

Intel Core Duo, released under the product code 80539, comprises2 cores in one die, a 2 MB L2 cache distributed for the both cores use, and an chip that have the power to separate and to control both L2 cache and FSB access. These type of processors, also have the ability to disable one from the two cores, so that the power to be conserved. This feature is also known as CISC.
indexintelchip20060109jpg

More than a half  of the desktop and Core 2 laptops processor models are Core 2 Duo with 2 processor cores on a single Merom, Conroe, Allendale, Penryn or Wolfdale chip. These come in a fully open  range of functioning and power consumption, starting with the comparatively slow ultra economic Uxxxx, with a 10 W capacity, and the economic Lxxxx, with only 17 W, models, to the more optimized and well- functioning pointed Pxxxx, with 25 W and Txxxx, with 35 W, mobile models and the Exxxx, with 65 W, desktop model types. The mobile Core 2 Duo CPUs with an 'S' prefix in the name are manufactured in a little  µFC-BGA 956 case which will allow the build of some more compact laptop models.

Among every released line, a lot of statistics refers to a better quality of products, quality that depends for the most part on core and the front side bus clock frequency and the quantity  of second level cache, that are specifically only for this model. Core 2 Duo CPU  in a typical manner use the full L2 cache of 2, 3, 4 or 6 megabytes accessible  in the specific stepping of the chip, when versions with the total of cache made bellow of normal during the manufacture process are sold for the low end consumer market as Celeron or Pentium Dual-Core CPUs. Like those processors, some low-end Core 2 Duo models make unable  features like as Intel Virtualization Technology.

core-i5

Core i5, is having as base the Nehalem micro architecture. The 1st Core i5 was released on September 8, 2009 and is a almost a facsimile of the Core i7, at the beginning only quad-core desktop processors grounded on Lynnfield, with dual-core mobile, also known as Arrandale and desktop processors, Clarkdale, coming in 2010.

Intel Core i7 is a family of several Intel desktop and laptop 64-bit x86-64 processors, the 1st processors made using the Intel Nehalem micro architecture and the replacement of the Intel Core 2 family. The Core i7 signature applies to the 1st family of processors. also known as Bloomfield that was released in 2008 and  for the Lynnfield and Clarksfield models, released and sold in 2009. All the models that are currently sold on the market are quad-core processors, but the future release of Core i7-6xx "Arrandale" mobile processors, that will have only 2 cores, it is very expected.

intel-imac-base

The current Apple iMac options you can choose from those 3 types of Intel processors even it is an Intel Core 2 Duo, an  Intel Core i5, or an Intel Core i7. The graphic cards are also available in two options: nVidia GeForce 9400M integrated graphic card or an ATI Radeon HD 4670 that can be easily upgraded to the ATI Radeon HD 4850, feature that is available for the 27 inches model only. Also, the user can choose between  different dimensions of the display. One can be a 21.5 inches LCD screen  or a 27 inches one, made from a glossy material.
