Even if you are an iPhone pro, or you have just bought it and want to make your experience with it easier, here are some tricks which not only save time, but as I said, ease the iPhone experience. Well, some of you might find these iPhone tips and tricks elementary, there is at least one thing in the list you didn't know. If you know all of them congratulations, and please share with us other tips and tricks you find interesting!

1. You can move the "dock" icons. This trick is overlooked, and you should know that the four icons located on the bar at the bottom of iPhone are movable: Phone, Mail, iPod, Safari. You can move them by pressing and holding the icons, and drag them while shaking. After all movements done, you should press the home button, and here you are: new design of your dock. There can be put any 4 icons on that dock, so if you need anything from the main menu icons, you can drag them there. Note the difference between these two iPhone screens!

2. When browsing the Internet, you can double tap any column, picture or even word to fit your screen to its width. This is very useful when reading blogs, or browsing column-designed web pages. Check out the image, and see how we fit the screen to the middle column size.

3. iPhone's headphones have also a multifunction button. The native headphones have a button on the microphone, and, when in a call it can be pressed once to answer a call, press twice to send the call to voicemail, and again press once to hang up. If a second call is coming while in a call, you can click once to hold current call and then switch to the new call, or you can hold for 2 seconds and then release to ignore the call and keep the current one. When you are out of call, you can press once to activate iPod and play songs, and the same one click can pause and release the song, and pressing twice will skip to the next song. These are some easy to remember tips about the button on the headphones, and it think they ease a lot your experience with the iPhone.

4. I think it happened at least once to any of us: backing up and syncing the iPhone, and when the hour long back up is almost done, but you receive a call. The whole back up or sync process is void, and you have to start it all over again. To avoid this situation, you can start the sync/backup process and then pull out the SIM card. This doesn't damage your phone at all. Put it back when the process is completed, and this way, the backup won't be interrupted. If, on the other hand, you want to end the backup or syncing, pull out the SIM and then pop it back.

5. For a fast soft reset, press and hold the Home button and Sleep one to restart the iPhone. A light will flash, the screen will shut down and then back on. Keep holding the buttons until the screen turns back on, and here it is: you made a soft reset of your iPhone!

Apple launched its app store when it released the iPhone, but I don't think all of the users want to spend the money on applications for the iPhone. There are free applications also, and you don't have to pay a cent to get these utilities, and many of them are awsome. Here I gathered some of my favorite applications for iPhone, and remember, they are all free.

If you are looking for a present, and you already found some alternative products, you might be interested to compare their prices, or to see each products' price on different websites. You can compare prices for over 10 million products in more than 1000 stores. There are also reviews for these products, and I think this is one of the coolest applications for iPhone, very useful when you need a present and can't run from store to store.

If you use pretty often the Notes application on iPhone, but you got bored of typing them, here comes VoiceNotes, an applications which recored short audio messages for later reference. It is much easier to speak to your iPhone than giving it written commands.

If you wanted a remote control for Apple TV or iTunes, the Remote applications allows you to control those applications through your smartphone and its Wi-Fi connection. Remote is a lazy couch person dream application, because with one remote you can control anything what plays in any room of your house. Instead of getting up ad changing the song by hand, now you just have to use the iPhone and ta-da! the song is changed without any effort.

Shazam helps you identify the names of the songs you hear and you don't know. It can find out the name of the artist and track the dowload place too. You can buy the music you hear instantly, from iTunes, see the related videos on YouTube. It also saves your tag history, and you can personalize the tags with photos, and also share them via Mail.

I think that Facebook and Twitterific applications don't need any presentation, and yes, they are available for free.Social connections are more and more important these days and you can check your profiles in real-time, share your thoughts with your friends in a second, and see who is doing what and where.

iPhone Bluetooth Headset

posted in accessories, by BindApple

iPhone is undoubtedly the most well known and talked about gadget of the year, and with its innovative touchscreen design and attractive look, it retains a lot of attention and it has a high-end style. Apple has introduced Bluetooth headset to come along with this device, and it matches the iPhone in elegance, style and functionality. Each iPhone Bluetooth headset costs $129.99, a quite high price.

This headset has the shape of a black stick, it measures 2 inches, it is 0.5 inch wide and 0.6 inch thick. The headset is remarkably light and the metal construction and the glossy finish make it a very elegant product. It looks more like an art piece, but it still is a simple headset. The controls for this additional device are pretty easy, because there is one button for all the options, and this multifunction button is on the top of the headset. This button has a curved feel, and it is easy to press. The earpiece is located on the back of the set, and it is designed to fit easily into the ear.

I think it would have been interesting to have volume controls on the headset too, not only to control them from the iPhone menu. One reason for this device being so pricey it is that it comes with an iPhone charging dock and an USB travel charger. The connection between the iPhone and the headset is made easily, because you just have to pop the iPhone and the headset into the dock, and here they are paired. This is one of the simplest pairing methods I've seen until now.  The charging dock has another advantage: on the screen of the smartphone you can see the battery status for both the iPhone and the headset. This is how you will easily know how much battery is still available on the headset.

This additional device, the iPhone Bluetooth headset is simple in design and in features too, and you can get the simple abilities to answer or end calls, but don't think about last number redial or call mute option. This headset is a beautiful piece, and it is very easy to use. The pairing with the iPhone is a great idea, and it comes also with the charging dock and the USB cable included.

The iPhone headset lacks some basic features, like call mute or redial, and it also lacks a volume control, but these minus aspects are balanced by the stylish design and the easy pairing system. It would be interesting to see an improved version, with more features, and maybe a lower price.

iPhone 3GS Review

posted in news, by BindApple

With the new iPhone 3GS, Apple solved some internal issues of the previous version, and to be specific they issued a beefed-up CPU, they set up a new internal compass and larger capacities for storage, and camera's optics are improved. The release of 3GS happened simoultaneously with the launch of OS 3.0, a huge jump from the previous versions software for system, which brings a lot of new things in our attention: cut/copy/paste function, stereo Bluetooth, video recording, accelerometer with landscape keyboard, an iPhone version of Spotlight and tethering. Apple is reinventing the wheel, and actually not reinventing it, but reshaping it.

There is nothing new in the visually aspect about iPhone 3GS compared to iPhone 3G, but only the lettering on the back, which you can see that it's mirrored in the Apple Logo. The plastic case, home and power buttons and the mute switch are all the same like on iPhone 3G. The RAM has doubled from 128 MB to 256 MB, and the phones has 16 GB and 32 GB versions available.

iphone-review

iPhone 3GS seems to eliminate some of the little issues in the Contacts, Calendar and Messaging area, and these are good improvements, because they raise iPhone's functionality. On iPhone 3GS, the applications are more intense graphically, and the phone changed the surface of the touchscreen with an olophobic coating, which is a thin pellicule resistant to fingerprints. iPhone 3GS has a 3Mp built-in camera, which is not great, but competitive, and it has an autofocus function too.

Biggest changes on this device are in the software, and this new Spotlight is notable because it gives you homescreen access to all features on the device, and it provides a huge functionality by adding the search option within the mail. Voice Controls is a little bit useless, though the initial concept is to control the phone via simple voice commands, but it is kind of useless as I said, because if you are in a situation where you can't use your hands, why would you start an application with the voice command, and not use it afterward. It has its functionality, but it is limited.

iphone-review

Apple introduced a proper compass inside this new 3GS and the surprising news are coming from the battery field, which has an improved life. Apple measured improved quality over the 3G in almost all categories, but not in the 3G calling too, where the results don't show a major change.

Since iPhone 3GS is much faster, due to the new OS, this means that you will spend less time in applications, and the battery life is saved like this too.

Overall, iPhone 3GS is the best smartphone on the market, but if you got bored of the Apple look, you could try Palm Pre, or MyTough 3G. As a whole, it is a refined and improved version of what you already knew, iPhone 3G, which stays in a lot of people's attention for a long time.

Multimode For iMac

posted in software news, by BindApple

MultiMode is an utility which allows your Macintosh device to decode more modes of non-voice communication, often place on shortwave frequencies. More than just decoding, this MultiMode is capable of transmissions too. Dedicated hardware cost in the past a lot of money, because it was necessary to demodulate and decode the transmissions. Now you can use your own Macintosh, and especially its processing power to display these modes, without need of any other hardware. MultiMode has digital filters, which pull weak signals out of the noise.

MultiMode requires a Macintosh which runs Mac OSX 10.1 or later versions. If you have Mac OS 8 or 9, you should take a look at MultiMode3, which is the proper utility for those versions. MultiMode is a shareware program, and you can download it to see how it works on your system.

Another thing you need is a radio which can tune in the ranges of frequences which you are interested in. If you want to transmit signals, you will need a transceiver, and for ACARS mode, you should know that it is used a VHF band scanner.

multimode-for-imac

The speaker or headphone jack from your radio is fed into the Mac's sound input through a cable. The radio is tuned and the mode should be selected. Multi Mode shows the audio spectrum as an aid for tuning. If you want to transmit, you have to connect the audio output from the Mac to the input of the transmitter, and this is possible through and isolated transformer. A lot of devices can do this, and you can do this yourself too.

This software can be downloaded without paying anything, and I think it is useful because this is the way you can use your Macintosh to decode non-voice communication.
