Best Display Settings For Apple iMac

Don't believe any so-called "guides," because the best display settings for Apple iMac computers are those that get along best with your eyes, that's all! While there are a bunch of methods to find the best display settings for Apple iMac computers, new or old ones, the one that I noticed to work better is to mess with those settings until you're happy with what you see.
Best Display Settings For Apple iMac

Just as a reminder - if you're going to do what it usually takes to adjust your iMac display settings - Calibrate, adjust Gamma, the target white point, and Brightness, that's most of it. If something's not working...you can sue Apple!

I know the advice above sounds lame, but it seems more and more people find reasons to sue Apple these days. When talking about iMacs, the latest lawsuit is also related to the display problems of this kind of Apple computer, so here you have it...

According to AppleInsider, "Florida resident Roman Huff observes that his 17-inch iMac bought in November 2006 -- here labeled an iMac G5 despite clearly being an Intel-based model -- is representative of a display defect that affects nearly all owners of that generation of the computer."

The lawsuit here could end up with Apple being forced to refund repair/replacement costs of all iMacs manufactured in 2005-2006 and having the notorious vertical lines display problem. Anyway, we're only at the beginning of this legal battle, so we won't get to see the results anytime soon, I guess.

Worst MP3 Players, Welcome The iPod Shuffle!

Did you get your iPod Suckle just yet? Come on, how come you never heard of it? Oh, yeah, my bad, we're talking about the new iPod Shuffle, but I think they should change the name a little. After all, "Suckle" matches the little bastard better!
iPod Shuffle

This new iPod, apart from being extremely light and really tiny, succeeded in making your life with it harder than it was ever before. I know, I am evil, and totally subjective. The thing is that I watched some feedback on various forums, and most people seemed to be happy with this new iPod. Fortunately, yesterday I found out that I am not the only one to include the new iPod Shuffle in the "worst MP3 players" list...

...because iLounge made justice:

"it’s also the worst iPod the company has ever released—designed not for the value-conscious consumers who originally wanted shuffles, but apparently, for the ever-narrowing niche of athletic users who want to listen to music but for whatever reason find the similarly shrinking, Nike-friendly iPod nano unappealing. In brief, the third-generation iPod shuffle is more challenging to use for simple things than the versions that came before, the least distinctive visually, and the most overpriced relative to what it actually delivers. It may be a clean design visually and impressive electronically, but conceptually, it’s a mess."

Should I add anything else? Oh, yeah, just a thought - should we call it "iPod Suckle," or just "iPod Suckage," huh?

Mac OS X 10.5.7

Ladies and gentlemen, Mac OS X 10.5.7 is getting closer with each day. Can you smell the beast? No? All right then, we'll leave the nose aside and use our eyes! While we're not talking about a final release just yet, Apple made available a beta for its developer community, and some details already became public.
Mac OS X 10.5.7

As things are looking now, it is possible that we'll have to wait almost a year and a half to get this seventh update to Mac OS X Leopard on our Macs as a final release, but until then, we have a new Mac OS X 10.5.7 Beta...

This new beta, labeled Mac OS X 10.5.7 build 9J30, seems to be the third external distribution of the impending software release only available to third-party developers, with no less than two dozen builds that have been evaluated in-house so far.

According to people familiar with Mac OS X 10.5.7 and its status, the new build bundles an updated version of Adobe's Flash Player, as well as five additional bug fixes, bringing the total number to over 80. The parts of the OS recently updated include iChat, the CoreGraphics framework, iCal, and the HFS+ file system.

This is it for now, and since there's plenty of time until Mac OS X 10.5.7 will take off, I am sure we'll hit this subject a few more times in the future, so be sure to subscribe to our news by email if you haven't done that already!

New York Sales Tax, iPod Escapes!

If you're living in New York, I am sure you're not crazy about the tax on tobacco, for example, and that's not the only "special" tax New York residents are facing. Anyway, as long as you don't have to pay tax on the air you breathe, there's still hope... and the fact they decided to drop that "iPod tax" everyone was talking about some time ago is a good sign, showing that the future can't be THAT black, after all!
iPod tax New York

Thanks to federal stimulus money, the plans to impose taxes on downloadable music and movie tickets have gone where they belong: all the way down the drain! Gov. Paterson said "It really has disturbed a lot of New Yorkers … they just see it as inconvenient and frustrating that when they try to get to some of their leisure areas that they are taxed as well," but I am sure this is more about his popularity and the chance to leave the "iPod tax" behind with only a minor hole in the budget.

When I say "minor hole," I think about the fact that, according to latest reports, the decision to leave the New York sales tax out of the iPod and movie realm will create a budget hole of $150 million, when the budget gap that needs to be covered is a $14 billion one!

I don't even want to think how this huge gap will be filled, because I am sure being rich has become like a disease in some areas, New York included, because it's easy to figure out where are they going to take the money to fill the gap from... but if I have to suggest something, let me say this: add some more tobacco tax, maybe some alcohol tax, too, and don't forget to make all churches pay some tax, as much as possible. :)

iPhone 3.0?!?

If all hardware would work as it should right out of the box, then a lot of people would live in peace and harmony with their computers, mobile phones, and other things that use some kind of software. We all know the iPhone has its share of problems, and most of them come from its software, not its hardware, but things got better with each new version and now, the iPhone 3.0 is getting closer...
iPhone 3.0

We know that Apple will reveal iPhone 3.0 to the world on the 17th of March, and we're not talking about rumors here. No way! This time, a bunch of online and offline journalists were invited to the event scheduled for 10:00AM on Tuesday, March 17th, in the Apple Town Hall, the same place where the new unibody MacBooks and the iPhone SDK were introduced, one year ago.

Obviously, Apple won't say anything about the new features added by iPhone 3.0 software until the event, but the Push Notification Server for third parties is a safe bet, considering what we know already. Of course they won't stop here, but until we get to see the news coming from the chosen few invited at Cupertino, I guess we should wait.

Oh, yeah, one more thing - while the iPhone 3.0 software may be revealed in a few days, and maybe even become available for download, the iPhone 3.0 hardware update is expected to arrive a few months later, in June, at the WWDC.
