iPhone Scan!

Still wondering about the innards of your iPhone? Well, today we'll strip Apple's smartphone "to the bone," since I just came across some very interesting iPhone scan pictures. In fact, it's only one picture, but it should be enough. After all, what could be there, apart from electronic components?
iPhone Scan

No, there's no Holy Grail inside it, and not even the face of God, as you can see in the image above. RadiologyArt has much more than just the above, including CT scans of two iBooks and an iPod, along with countless things, more or less tech stuff. In fact, some are completely "techless," as it happens with the nuggets or the Fillet-O-Fish sandwich! ;)

Getting back to our iPhone scan, the details on its page claim the image was created in August, 2008, and "processed with Osirix software
on a Macintosh computer."
It would have been really hilarious to see it processed with some Microsoft Software on a Windows PC, don't you think?

Please, don't get things wrong - it seems all images are treated this way. Here's the entire mumbo-jumbo - "Scans are acquired as DICOM images using a GE CT scanner, then processed in Osirix software on a Macintosh iMac computer. Colors are assigned based on the varying densities of materials present throughout the object. Depending on the spread of densities within a particular subject, black or white backgrounds are chosen. Images are further processed in Adobe Photoshop for proper contrast and balance." Ta-taa!

Oh, yeah, one more thing - if you'd like to have a high resolution print of the iPhone scan, you can email RadiologyArt for additional info. Why would you like to have such a scan displayed somewhere in your office or home, that's not for me to judge...

Facebook Banned In Apple Stores

When you're trying to keep living costs as low as possible, having some Apple Store next to your home can be pure gold. Just think about this - you throw away your computer(it was an outdated Mac G4, anyway), so you can also discontinue your Internet subscription, along with the obvious electricity costs drop coming with this. Next, you hang around the Apple Store and use the computers on display there. You can use some portable apps on a USB stick to keep it safe, and this is it!
Facebook Banned

Oh, yeah, I know - it's not quite fair to do that, especially if you're going to come back on a daily basis to that store, and buy nothing, but who really cares about fairness these days? Let's admit it, this world is a jungle - it always has been this way, so it's all about survival of the fittest, nothing more.

Social websites can turn into real time wasters, I am sure you know that, especially if you're someone else's boss... Since Facebook is getting more and more popular with each week, it's obvious various companies have been targeting it to be introduced in their blacklist, and so did Apple.

A few years ago, they started blocking access to MySpace, when those using it made others stand in line and watch them wasting time(as a personal opinion - MySpace sucks), and now we see Facebook banned in all Apple Stores. Ta-taa!

According to an Apple Store employee, interviewed by ArsTechinca, "It's just trying to find a balance between letting people try out the computers, but not tying them up so others can try them as well." So far, so good, but it seems there are more sites blacklisted by Apple, although no such list is currently public.

This really made me curious, so... do you have any idea about other sites banned in Apple Stores, except MySpace and Facebook? If you do, please go ahead and drop a comment below. Thanks in advance!

Custom iPod Upgrade, Anyone?

One of these days, I was thinking about my MP3 player and the usefulness of the 120 GB iPod. Just for the record, my player has 2 GB of internal memory and an additional 2 GB microSD memory card, and with an autonomy of about 20 hours, I can only play a bit more than half of my playlist until I have to recharge it. Sounds reasonable to me, and so I get to notice how the iPod Classic is providing too much storage space - 30,000 songs or 150 hours of video? Come on!!!
Custom iPod upgrade

I know, some of you may say people need to grab their entire music collection to have it on the road, family videos, and so on, but guess what - there are external drives for that, and they are more reliable and less likely to be lost or stolen! Anyway, if you want to pump up your iPod Classic to 240 GB of storage, here's how to do it(and WASTE A LOT OF MONEY in the process!)...

Go to RapidRepair and ask those guys to install a 1.8-Inch PATA hard drive from Toshiba into your iPod Classic, that's all! If you don't have an iPod Classic yet and you'd like a cost-effective solution, you can also grab some refurbished 30 GB iPod off Buy.com (currently priced at $145), and then get the 120 GB upgrade from RapidRepair, for "only" $180. Hmmm... that's still insanely expensive!

Final thoughts - this is A CRISIS! Even if honey would be falling off the sky, $145 for a damn refurbished 30 GB iPod Classic seems way too much for me, especially when there are plenty of excellent alternatives, brand new, for that price!(Cowon D2, anyone?)

iPhone Google Books

If you recall it well, a few days ago, Google made its Google Tasks app iPhone ready. To make it all a very complicated puzzle, they removed the iPhone version of iGoogle just a few days before that, and now we're having iPhone Google Books. What a mess!
Google Books iPhone

Anyway, I have nothing bad to say about this last move coming from the Internet search giant - after all, what could be bettter than have access to over 1.5 million public domain texts on your mobile? Even more, you will get them iPhone-ready!

To access Google Books for iPhone, simply enter http://books.google.com/m into your iPhone browser, and find your favorite writer. Once you have, take your time to enjoy his works, just be sure to watch your battery level from time to time. No, it's not that Google Books will eat up your iPhone's battery faster than usual... it's only that time seems to pass by much faster if you enjoy a good book.

Speaking about features, you'll be able to jump to a specific page, as well as search various words within the text. While the iPhone app won't allow you to leave any bookmarks in a document, you'll be able to use your browser's bookmarking features to get back to a certain section of the book much easier.

That's it for now, and here's my final advice - better leave that iPhone porn for a while and read a good book, don't you think? ;)

RIP, G4 Macs!

I don't know about you, but I don't think the MacBook Air has such an amazing design. Building it so thin, that was amazing, but when it comes to best Apple designs so far, my favorite is the "Graphite" Power Mac G4. Just take a look at it below - who can say this computer is anything else but beautiful? Anyway, the sad news is that Apple will drop support for most G4 Macs, together with some Xserve products, so we're already talking about a "vintage Mac" when naming the G4...
Graphite Power Mac G4

I know, this is really sad, but we're not talking about rumors - starting on the 17th day of March, the following list will become officially "obsolete" :

- PowerBook G4
- Power Mac G4 (Digital Audio)
- Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver)
- Macintosh Server G4 (Digital Audio)
- Macintosh Server G4 (Quicksilver)
- Xserve RAID
- Xserve (Slot Load)
- Xserve (Cluster Node)

That means Apple will cease providing service parts or documentation for the products listed above, and you won't be able to send them as Mail-In Repairs to AppleCare Repair Centers.

As a final note, it seems that California has a special situation - Xserve products there are "vintage," while the others are considered "obsolete," the difference being that service parts for the first category will only be available to repair older products purchased in that state. Other than that, it's the same - RIP, good old G4 Macs!
