New App Store Download Milestone

One of these days, I was checking out some website. It was Engadget, probably, but I can't bet on that. Anyway, the idea is that they had a giveaway, and to enter you had to give an answer to the big question about the current economic crisis - "what to do about it?" - despite the fact winners were randomly chosen. One of the answers there was "let Apple give iPhones to everyone, and then see the App Store turn into the new world's economic power," and despite the obvious impossibility of such a fact, I think that guy had a point...
App Store download milestone

...since there are even sites with the only purpose of watching App Store, like Apptism, a site tat came up with a hot report about a new App Store downloads milestone - no less than 20,000 items available!

According to this website, the milestone has been reached this Tuesday, and since Apptism claims to be monitoring Apple's App Store hourly, we should take their word for granted. The funny part is that, at least for now, Apple declined to comment, but when looking back, here's what we see: on the 16th of January, Apple made the official announcement regarding the 15,000 App Store downloads available mark, so it took less than a month for an additional 5,000 to drop by. Impressive!

As I conclude this article, Apptism shows no less than 20285 apps available for iPhone and iPod Touch users on the App Store, so I wouldn't be amazed to see the 30,000 mark reached before the end of March. Well, at least that's my guess. Would you bet against it?

Marvel & iTunes FTW!

Founded by Martin Goodman way back in 1939, as Timely Comics, Marvel Comics is now a global power when it comes to super heroes and super villains. After all, who hasn't heard about Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Iron Man, Spider-Man, or the X-Men? Well, after 70 years, the Marvel Universe is going to enter the Apple Universe...
Marvel iTunes arrival

...with the introduction of motion comics to the iPhone and iPod owners. Obviously, this is going to happen with the help of Apple's iTunes Store. If you think this is another rumor, calm down - the official announcement has been made earlier this week, at the New York Comic Con, so everything should be clear now!

According to Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada, "It became very, very evident to me that as technology moves forward, there will come a day where we'll be able to not just create animation based upon our comic books and our characters and stories that we've told, but there will come a time when eventually we'll be able to take existing comic art, the flat, static art, and be able to animate it. We can put out a product that is not quite a comic book and not quite animation, [but] a wonderful hybrid that incorporates all of our great talents."

If the above doesn't explain it well enough, I guess you should see the Motion Comics webpage and enjoy the trailer. Finally, a warning - be sure not to visit the page at night, when you speakers volume is higher than it should be... people sleeping in your household may hate you for a few days after that!

Fresh Snow Leopard Information

To be honest, I am really crazy about fresh Snow Leopard information, because things may be really serious - Snow Leopard vs Windows 7 may be the last Microsoft - Apple match in the OS realm. No, I don't have any inside information about this, no official forecast, it's just one of my own thoughts. Today, we have some very good news related to Apple's Snow Leopard, namely the upcoming "drivers on demand" feature, as well as some ZFS-related news...
Snow Leopard information

...and I will start with the most important feature of this upcoming OS, its brand new ZFS file system. According to various sources claiming to be familiar with Apple's plans, Snow Leopard Server will include the latest build of ZFS for Mac OS X, as well as having ZFS features available right inside the Disk Utility, so setting up ZFS storage pools and file systems will be done without having to use any command line tools. Hooray!

At last, here's the interesting part for most desktop users, "the weapon of Windows destruction," as I see it: printer drivers on demand! For now, it is said that Mac OS X Snow Leopard will stop installing a few gigabytes of printer drivers, only loading what you need for your device, but I think this could be only the beginning. For example, modular graphics drivers that only work as required. No need for OpenGL? No OpenGL modules loaded!

I don't know if this would be a good idea, but I think the first company to get back to the basics will win the OS war - after all, I see no problem in a very light out-of-the-box OS, as long as software companies will always be "careful" to load all your hardware resources... and a bit extra!

Google Sync, iPhone! Google Sync!!

Hey, iPhone! Wake up, little one! Still having Google compatibility nightmares? It's all right, you can calm down now, soon it's all going to be over! After all, in these tough times, the ones who aren't listening to their customers are doomed, and even the almighty Google seems to agree with that. Just look at all these iPhone goodies they have been offering lately!
Google Sync iPhone

Today, the time has come for Google Sync, and if you're not afraid of Google's "Beta" applications, read on! Just as a side note, I've been using Gmail for ages, and I find it to be more stable than at least a quarter of all "stable release" apps I have ever put my hands on. Now, let's leave these behind and see what's up with Google Sync, shall we?

According to the Official Google Mobile Blog, "a beta version of Google Sync for the iPhone and Windows Mobile phones as well as a contacts-only version for phones that support SyncML" is available to all those interested, so you can easily get your Gmail Contacts and Google Calendar events to your mobile.

Just read this, if you'we worried about the complexity of the sync operation - "Once you set up Sync on your phone, it will automatically begin synchronizing your address book and calendar in the background, over-the-air, so you can attend to other tasks. Sync uses push technology so any changes or additions to your calendar or contacts are reflected on your device in minutes. The connection is always on so you don't have to manually sync your phone after Sync has been set up. This means that when your colleague changes the time of the TPS report cover sheets meeting, you'll know about it right away." As easy as 1-2-3, if you ask me!

Now, all I can say is that I'm glad to see Google finally embracing the iPhone, despite the fact its Android initiative may go down the drain "thanks to the iPhone," if I can put it this way...

Screen Protection For iPod Touch 2G

These days, for virtually any need you can think of, the market offers a solution. Unfortunately, there are more things available allowing for LCD screen protection, than something to protect your home, car, and - most of all - world peace. Wait, there's no such thing as "world peace" just yet! Well, that's it, I guess we'll have to settle for less, and talk about the screen protection for iPod Touch 2G we can get...
Screen Protection for iPod Touch 2G

...and the story is pretty straightforward: we have three products, all for the same price - $12.00, all with a single goal, to protect your iPod Touch 2G, and yet slightly different. How different? Well, we have the PureReflect, PureProtect, and PureAntiReflect.

Coming from SwitchEasy Limited, these three Pure screen protectors feature a tough, scratch resistant shield, combined with a "no dust" antistatic membrane, with the "Protect" one offering "High Gloss ultimate clarity," followed by the "Reflect" and its "True Mirror reflection," and the "Smudge-proof, no-glare display" offered by the PureAntiReflect screen protector.

I was just wondering about the PureReflect, so here's the answer - "Our Revolutionary PureReflect™ offers what no other reflective membrane offers – True Mirror reflection. Whether you are checking your make-up or your war-paint rest assured there will be no distortion – just pure clarity." Pretty cool, huh? Well, at least for girls, if you ask me...

I don't know if this is true, but I guess the Pure for iPod Touch 2G should also work with the 1st generation Touch, as well as the iPhone 3G. If you got one already, correct me if I'm wrong! Thanks in advance... and that's all, folks! ;)
