Alarm Clock For Mac

If you were looking for an alarm clock for Mac, then I should tell you that a few sites can help you with that. Just open the page in your browser, set the alarm time, and then go to sleep. Some of them have really annoying alarms, so waking up shouldn't be a problem, but what if your Internet connection goes down while you sleep?
Alarm Clock for Mac

Well, that's a good question, and the answer lies above - Apimac Timer, your freeware alarm clock for Mac! Apimac, award-winning Mac software developer since 1996, has just released version 6.0 of this program, and since the official email came in a few minutes ago, here's the boiling hot essential info about it:

"Apimac Timer is freeware, this means that users can freely use it as long as they wish, anyway some users could be interested in buy the Pro version which adds some additional features as emailing the log at a specific interval of time; computer log out, restart and shut down; launching a specific application; executing shell scripts; launching a web address and so on..."

Minimum requirements include 32 MB hard drive space, at least Mac OS X 10.4, but fortunately this program comes as Universal Binary, fully compatible with both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs.

While Timer 6.0 is freeware, there's also a Pro Edition available for $14.95, with Company and Site Licenses available. Oh, yeah, one more thing - here you have the Pro-exclusive features:

- Email the log to your preferred email address at a specific interval of time.
- Computer log out, restart, shut down, sleep, log event, quit application.
- Launch specific application, open a specific file with the appropriate application, execute AppleScript, execute shell script.
- Launch web address, launch FTP address, send email, ping.
- Black Screen and Sound Off.
- Perform multiple actions.
- AppleScript support.
- Full-screen mode.
- Apple Remote support.

These being said, I leave you to fully enjoy your new alarm clock for Mac, although I must confess that, despite the utility of such programs, I hate them. The reason is obvious - you can always break a $5 alarm clock when it tries to wake you up, but breaking your $1,000 computer isn't such a good idea...

Amazing Paper Airplanes On iPhone!

Back in my early days, I was crazy about paper airplanes. Now, I can't find a quiet place to practice, but I would surely enjoy working on some amazing paper airplanes and launching them. Well, that's something I should do in the future, because once you've been there, you never forget how to make them, but what about flying one...on your iPhone?
Amazing Paper Airplanes

Coming from Clever Coding, Paper Pilot was originally released on the Apple App Store on January 12th, 2009, and now just got updated with a polished interface and adjusted control of those amazing paper airplanes that you can fly inside your office! Unfortunately, we're talking about a virtual flight, on your iPhone's display, but it's better than nothing, anyway...

The story is very simple and funny - "In the game, you fly a small paper airplane around your offices, your home and even the sewer. The controls are simple and intuitive, you just tilt your device in the direction you want to fly. Swiping your finger across the screen controls the throttle allowing you to accelerate through the levels at break-neck speed."

I don't know if this has been done already, but seeing this app in action made me thing about a useful amazing paper airplanes app, more like a tutorial - a guide for building your own paper airplane models, and maybe then share your result using the built-in camera over the Internet. Any iPhone developer up to this task around? ;)

Apple Satisfaction, 2009 Report

I guess I must be getting old, because otherwise I see no reason for me not to remember when we talked about Apple's customer satisfaction level. Oh, yeah, it was sometimes last year, that's for sure! Now, the time has come for some "Apple satisfaction" once again, although I must confess I wasn't surprised at all to see the image below...
Apple Customer Satisfaction 2009

The story is very simple - as the latest report from ChangeWave Research shows, overall spending for both desktops and notebooks is going all the way down, since it has hit its lowest point in the last two years. Considering the fact that desktops released in the last 2-3 years can handle most daily tasks today, except some games, maybe, I wasn't surprised to see that only 4% of respondents plan to buy a new desktop in the next 90 days, and 6% notebooks.

This may be roughly half of the planned demand expressed in 2007, but I think about me and I get the answer - I got a new dual-core machine with 2GB of memory and a decent video card at the end of 2007, and in the meantime I added a larger hard drive, and I won't get a new computer at least for another year. It has nothing to do with the crisis, it's all abut the need to get a new computer.

Now, speaking about Apple, we see them grabbing over 25% of the purchase intentions in both desktop and notebook markets, but when it comes to "Apple satisfaction..." 81% of those who got some Apple computers said they are very happy with their new machines, while ASUS got the second place with 67%, followed by Acer and Sony, with 61% and 56%.

No words about Vista satisfaction this time, and I think things are clear - there can be such a thing only for masochists!

eBay iPhone App, Updated

I don't know about you, but I love eBay, despite the fact I got a bunch of fake Gillette blades once. At least I know I wasn't the only one... but this is not about shaving accessories, as you probably imagined already. When bidding on eBay, sometimes you need to keep an eye on those items and their price, and since the iPhone is so widely used to browse the Internet, having an eBay iPhone app is nothing out of ordinary.
eBay iPhone App

I guess I mentioned the eBay iPhone apps at least once in the past, but now we're talking about a new version, and this is not just a minor update. No, sir! This time, we're into some serious stuff - a seriously overhauled interface, as well as support for messaging.

According to the official news, the eBay iPhone app has the following new features/improvements:

- Messaging
- Updated home screen appearance
- Added “Hot items” to the home screen, graphically summarizing recent, favorite, and popular searches
- New View item Action Toolbar for easier watching and bidding
- Improved item status display
- Added max distance and price range refinements to search
- Added eBay Motors as a top-level category (United States only)

Some may claim the current exchange rates are not making eBay as attractive as one year ago, but they are not quite right. To be honest, I've seen a bunch of very interesting price cuts in the last few months, and I swear I wasn't paid by eBay to write this!

These being said, I hope all you eBayers who missed this free app so far will give it a chance now. As far as I am concerned, this is one of the most useful iPhone apps I've seen so far, and that's enough for me.

iPhone ColorSplash

As we all know, the iPhone could be considered a great phone...or not, but nobody can deny the fact there are entire cohorts of similar phones, in many cases even cheaper ones, all having better cameras. Fortunately for Apple, it's the software available setting them apart, and while other phones can get better pictures, most can't get as far as the iPhone when it comes to image processing, and today we're stopping at ColorSplash!
iPhone ColorSplash

If someone would have told me a few years ago that I'll soon be able to create panoramic images right on my mobile phone, that would surely have been the start of a good laugh. Even better, the price of most iPhone apps make them more interesting than their counterparts aimed at the desktop operating systems.

OK, so I was going to tell you about ColorSplash... Priced at only $1.99, ColorSplash is a program made by Hendrik Kueck, a computer scientist based in Vancouver, B.C. who contributed to Adobe Lightroom 2.0, so there's no room for "what if this app doesn't work as supposed."

With the iPhone ColorSplash, you can easily take a color image from your camera roll, and desaturate it selectively, but it's much more than just that. You can also zoom using the finger controls, and then paint color selectively, using your finger as paintbrush, of course!

I guess I should add something, but I really can't find anything interesting to say, because ColorSplash simply left me without words. Just give it a try and you'll understand...
