Custom iPhone Cases From Shinnorie

As I said it before, an iPhone is not YOUR iPhone unless it has something to help it(and you) stand out of the crowd. Sometimes, a software able to help you customize everything that's on screen helps, but it all gets much better, once you choose one of the many custom iPhone cases available in the wild... or a custom case that's not available yet, so you can get unique looks for your iPhone's or iPod's protection!

Today, we won't only talk about custom iPhone and iPod cases, because there's more than just that, since Shinnorie.com has just released its GEN Label service, which allows you to grab the unique iPhone or iPod case YOU want. But how is this working, after all? Do you need to be a skilled designer, get some friends to help you, <-250x250 Square - right->or even your gramma can do it?

The workflow is very simple - customers build their designs online, choosing from various materials, with options that include custom thread colors, structural modifications, as well as accessories like carabineers, hand straps, neck straps or belt clips. Even more, you can upload your own image to be used on the front panel of iPod classic cases.

Pricing? Well, that depends on what you want, and the only problem for impacient people looking for custom iPhone cases could be that you won't get your case in a snap, since first you submit your form online, then you get a price quote within 2 days, discuss through email about final design, pay through PayPal, and - finally - product is being sent to you in about 8 days.

I don't know about you, but if I had to wait for a custom iPhone case, I would, only that I am a bit out of inspiration these days...

Mac OS X 10.5.6 Update Is Near

Updates, updates, updates, that's what I hate about computing. If cars would have more things in common with computers, I am sure most drivers would drop them and get a bike, but - fortunately for them - cars are (usually) working properly "out of the box." Anyway, when talking about Mac OS X 10.5.6 update, things are not looking too bad, especially since each new Mac OS X update has to handle less security holes than the Windows updates we see popping up on a regular basis...

According to AppleInsider, developers received build 9G55 of Mac OS X 10.5.6 on Wednesday, and "people familiar with the matter say Mac OS X 10.5.6 Server was also synched up with the client software and now carries the same build number, typically a telltale sign that both distributions are being primed for a public release."<-125x125 Button - right->

In other conditions, this would be just another release for internal testing, but this time those anonymous inside sources claim that "both the client and server distributions currently reflect no known issues," so since everything is fine, the release date of Mac OS X 10.5.6 update to the public can't be that far away...

At last, you should be aware that Mac OS X 10.5.6 update for home users will have over 100 bug fixes and enhancements, and most important of them seems to be an improvement of MobileMe's automatic syncing, especially for those computers with medium to high latency Internet connections.

Mac Games Arcade Goes Beta

In my opinion, Apple's iTunes Music Store is decent, but I can't say it's more than that, at least for now. While a lot of people consider it great, I will stop at "decent," and not necessarily because I am not crazy about most things you can purchase there. If I have to choose between a supermarket and a specialized store, I always go for the later, and that's exactly what happens with iTunes - I hate the fact there are too many things for sale, and so the fact that Mac Games Arcade enterd the "open Beta" stage is nothing but awesome news to me!

While this one is not coming from Apple, I don't think those crazy about iPhone games will have a problem with it, as long as we're not talking about some obscure company from India. No, my friends, <-125x125 Button - right->this is serious, since game retailer Macgamestore.com has decided to release a new application, reminding me of the old Real Arcade for Windows, with the noble goal of allowing its users to buy and download games in one click, Mac Games Arcade.

Mac Games Arcade, now freely available for everyone to try, allows you to download demos, check out reviews and screenshots, as well as purchase and download full versions, of course. With over 100 developers selling their products through Macgamestore, Mac Games Arcade promises to become a very interesting alternative to Apple's iTunes & App Store, although they won't be easy to catch up with...

South Korea Won!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it's true - South Korea won!!! No, it wasn't a two-hours war with some (northern and communist) neighbor, and they didn't use government's resources to win the lottery, either. Since we're here, it should be obvious - South Korea won the right to be on the "iPhone list." If you're wondering about this list, the answer is very easy to find, but let me help you - I am talking about the (long) list containing all the countries where Apple's iPhone is officially available.

After over a year spent on the US market, the iPhone is finally reaching some "dark corners" of the world, but I think South Korea is far from being such a place. So... why did it take so long for the iPhone to reach it?

The answer is that, unfortunately for those <-180x150 Small Rectangle - right->who had to wait so long to have the iPhone available, South Korea requires a specific mobile platform, called WIPI, of which most is based on Java. Apple got lucky, because this policy was changed early this week by the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), so carriers are now finally able to decide whether they want to use WIPI or not.

This restriction will become ineffective starting April, so South Korea won the iPhone, but will have to wait for its prize until 2009's spring...

One last thing that is known for now, since pricing and subscription plans are still secrets, is that SK Telecom and KTF are the companies chosen by Apple to be iPhone's official carriers in South Korea. Other than that, we should wait for the winter to end, and then we'll find out more about the South Korean iPhone.

Pink iPod Dock From Scandyna

I don't know about you, but I am not crazy at all about pink stuff. Not even a pin iPod dock shouldn't be able to change my mind about this color, but - fortunately - there's much more to it than the color, as we're going to see right away...

Today's pink iPod dock comes from Scandyna Speakers, and it's called iPod Dock Pack. Sorry for that - not just "iPod dock pack," but "Micropod Dock Pack." Basically, we're talking about two 100W Micropod SE Speakers and one 15W stereo dock, <-180x150 Small Rectangle - right->all in black, white, or pink.

Only available in the US and England, this nice iPod dock package includes the following:

- 1 x Dock(inc. Amp 15watt stereo, 2 channel)
- 2 x Micropod SE Speakers (100watt Kevlar bass/midrange driver + softdome tweeter)
- 1 x Infrared Remote Control (Copatible with all ipods (excluding shuffle))
- 2 x Speaker cables
- 6 x Aluminium spike feet

While a black iPod dock from Scandyna would be a great addition to my iPod, I think $300 is a bit too much, but if you really want a pink iPod dock, then this may be one of the best choices available, unless you want to grab some cheaper model usually available in black/white/silver and paint it pink! ;)
