A few days ago, some rumors were heard about Linkin Park being scheduled to play at a big event planned by Apple. Most thought this is going to be the release of some new product, or some major update, but I wasn't quite sure what to think. Having such big names play in a show kept secret for a long time isn't such a great marketing idea, especially since some people living far from the location of the show would love to attend. That's why I didn't mention this on BindApple, but now the show is over, and there's no secret, no rumor, no "what if", so let's see what happened, after all, shall we?

Linkin Park live at Apple Soho

On the 20th of February, Linkin Park played six songs at the Apple Soho, in New York, and the show was recorded to be released on iTunes at a later date, yet to be announced. The songs that were enjoyed by the 200 radio contest winners present at the event were “Wake”, “Given Up”, “Shadow of the Day”, “My December”, “In Pieces”, and “Bleed It Out”.

Well, it seems Apple had no secret event ready, and no launch is scheduled for the near future. Or...who knows, maybe we have no idea about what's in store for us! Anyway, the release of the SDK for the iPhone should arrive before the 1st of March, if Apple succeeds in keeping their promise, so we may have interesting new things from them pretty soon...

Most gadgets are extemely nice, shiny and clean... but that only lasts for a few minutes after taking it out of the box. To deal with this sad truth, a lot of companies are designing cases to help protect them, from cheap polycarbonate ones, to expensive handcrafted leather cases. Today, I will tell you about a hardcase with an aluminum back from RhinoSkin, destined to protect your 3rd generation iPod Nano...

RhinoSkin aluminum hardcase

Announced less than a day ago, the aluminum hardcase for 3rd generation iPod Nano from RhinoSkin has a clear front panel that protects your player from scratches, and is also shatterproof, while the back is made of durable aluminum, as the name suggests. Its soft grip sides reduce the probability of slipping, and both 40GB and 80GB models fit in without giving you any headache! At last, it should be noted that a lanyard is also included, and the price of this case is $24.95. To purchase this product, or maybe find another one that suits your tastes and needs, feel free to visit this page.

One of Apple's problems is that games notorious on other platforms reach Mac OS X very slow, or not at all, and exactly the same happened with Neverwinter Nights 2. Fortunately, the Mac OS X version of the game just reached gold status, and it should arrive in stores pretty soon...

Neverwinter Nights 2

Developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Atari, NWN2 is based on Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 edition rules, and was released in late 2006 for the PC platform. Just like the original NWN game, this is a RPG where you can choose your alignment, allies, and enemies, as well as build custom mods and campaigns, to provide countless hours of gaming without any chance of getting bored.

For now, the Mac version can be preordered here for $49.99, but if you're not such in a hurry, you can wait until next week, when NWN2 for mac should arrive in stores... but in the meantime, if "Neverwinter Nights" sounds like something new to you, feel free to check the official page and discover all there is to know about this excellent game!

Yesterday, the Apple Store was down. As usual, everyone expected something big to happen, and they got what they were waiting for, a new product from Apple. In fact, this is more an update than a completely new product, but I think it's a pretty interesting subject, especially since we didn't talk about it here, so far. Oh, did I forget to tell you what is this all about?

Xsan 2

Ladies and gentlemen, just a few hours ago, Apple updated its Apple Store site, to accomodate the first major update to its enterprise class Storage Area Network (SAN) file sustem for Mac OS X!

Xsan 2 allows now even easier setup of a SAN, and introduces MultiSAN, a feature allowing workstation users to gain simultaneous access to multiple SANs, and apart from being fully integrated with Apple's Mac OS X Leopard and Server Leopard, Xsan 2 is also certified to work with third-party RAID storage devices.

At last, it should be noted that Xsan 2, being fully integrated with Mac OS X, as I was just saying, is able to take full advantage of Apple's operating system facilities, such as Spotlight, for searching data on multiple SAN volumes, but it doesn't stop here, because iCal Server, Mail Server or Podcast Producer are also able to integrate with Xsan 2, supporting clustered file systems, to improve performance and scalability.

If you want to know more about this, then you should visit the official page, here. Good luck!

Apple just updated its online store with some interesting things, although they didn't come up with anything revolutionary. As far as I know, their iPod shuffle is the smallest music player around, and now, the 1GB version just got cheaper. While I am not crazy about such players that lack a lot of functions, and can only play music, without allowing you to choose anything when it comes to sound quality, playlist management, and so on, I am sure that a lot of people love them. In fact, it's all about music, and nothing more...

iPod Shuffle

As I was saying, the iPod shuffle got cheaper, with a new price of only $49 for all 1GB models, including the (PRODUCT) Red, exclusively available at the Apple Store. For now, you can choose from five colors, including four new hues.

All these models are shipping withing 24 hours, including the (PRODUCT) Red. Inside the box, you will find the iPod shuffle, its earphones, the USB dock, and a Quick Start guide. iTunes is available as a free download, obviously, but there are also other various programs that can help you manage your iPod shuffle's content.

At last, you should know that current system requirements include at least USB 2.0 port, Mac OS X 10.4.8 or Windows XP SP2/Vista, iTunes 7.4, and Internet connection for using the iTunes Store.

Now...one more thing: wasn't USB 2.0 backwards compatible? I guess the iPod shuffle should also work on older computers with USB 1.1 ports, but I wouldn't bet on it, so if you have some information about it, please let me know!
